I had zero faith in the Broncos this year and can't believe they went 5-0. It was easy to write off some of the wins as flukes, luck, or cupcake matchups. I fully expected San Diego to blow your doors off and expose your shortcomings. While you haven't won the game yet, you are well in control and have proven you are no fluke regardless of the outcome. Good teams not only win easy games, but find a way to win close games, and you have done that. Orton looks like a perfect fit for your offense and the defense looks to be the real deal. Congratulations on your success and good luck as the season wears on. It seems I was wrong.

 Welcome to the good side. :missing:

Agreed. I am another person who thought the Broncos would fall apart as the season began. I was completely wrong. Props to Denver.

I boldly predicted to my coworkers when the Broncos were 3-0 that their schedule was about to get much harder and they would probably be 3-6.

Broncos are 6-0 AND have two extra first rounders queued up for 2010 and 2011...

This team is just going to get better.

here they come......angling for seats on the bandwagon.
There's a huge difference between giving a team props and hopping on the bandwagon. Besides, unless you can show some evidence that you were on the bandwagon 2 months ago, your smug tone seems a little unwarranted.

Relax toolbox. They will come back down to earth but they are far from the dumpster fire many thought. No interest in this bandwagon, just good to see Dawk going out in a good way.
that's the spirit!!don't let go of that negativity -- it keeps you strong.

can't wait for the "OMGTOLDYOUSO!!!!!" posts when they lose a game.

Would it be fair to say Nolan deserves at least as much credit as McDaniels?

(From where I sit, anyway.)
I would definitely say so. The offense is worse than it was last year, but the defense is in the middle of the biggest turnaround in the entire history of the NFL.

They are at least giving the 2008 Dolphins a run for their money. I'm not sure how much of the 1-15 to 11-5 turnaround was due to the Dolphins D, but it seems like that was a big part of it.

Common guys, isn't it obvious, the Chargers are a horrible team. Denver still has not beaten a good team....

Just kiddin, they have won more games so far than I expected them to win all year. I didn't like McDaniels untill last week vs the Pats, after the game his show of emotion made me like this guy. You can tell how hard he has worked, and hopefully they can keep going.

I also thought they had two extra 1st round picks for trading Cutler away, but I'm not a Denver homer so I could be wrong.

Miami went from 23rd in total defense in '07 to 15th in '08. Denver has gone from 29th last year to 6th this year.

Denver traded their first rounder to Seattle to move up in the draft. They still own Chicago's first round pick.

You know the old saying "Some guys are better suited to be coordinators than head coaches"...?Mike Nolan's picture would be the first one next to that comment.

He has better players in Denver too though....DJ Williams, Champ B, Dumerville, Ayers, Dawkins etc

The primary reason for Miami's turnaround last year was their schedule (4 games against the Jets and Bills, 8 games against the AFC West and NFC West- total cakewalk). The secondary reason was their offensive resurgence under Chad Pennington and behind the Wildcat.Yards are a poor measurement of defense in and of themselves, but Denver's gone from 30th in scoring defense to 1st in scoring defense. Last year, they averaged 28 points allowed per game. This year, they average 11 (and that's including Sproles' punt return- the defense itself is allowing under 10 per game). My favorite measure of the turnaround is DVOA. Last year, they had the second worst defense in DVOA history (which currently goes back to 1994, iirc). So far this year, they're 4th (and likely to go up after this week's data is added).

They got an extra '09 and '10 pick. In the '09 draft, they took Moreno and Ayers with their two firsts, and they traded their first next year to Seattle for Seattle's 2nd rounder this year.

I've said for years that I love it when my team hires TERRIBLE head coaches as their coordinators, and TERRIBLE coordinators as position coaches. Marty Morninweg? Hire him! **** LeBeau? Hire him! Bob Slowik as a DBs coach? Hire him! The only reason those guys got the head coaching or coordinator jobs in the first place is because they were the best in the league at the previous level.

I'll take my serving of crow with some BBQ sauce and a side of onion rings please. I, too, thought Denver wouldn't do squat and the young coach was WAY over his head. So far I am wrong.

Props and congrats.

signed, Chiefs fan.

PS: going to wash my mouth out with soap now and then swallow it and puke.

:goodposting: Nolan is a huge part of the success. Look at how the defense has been turned around in such a short order. I was really geeked when Nolan came in this year.

I'm happy for McDaniels and for the Broncos. I remember getting mocked around here for urging people to give McDaniels a chance. :goodposting:

The field goal given up last night in the 3rd qtr. marks the only points the Broncos Defense has given up since the week 1 TD with 2 minutes to play in the game vs the Bengals.

Scoring by qtr against this Defense:

1st - 36

2nd - 20

3rd - 3

4th - 7

10 points in the 2nd half wins games!

He's going to one up the Pats by not only going 16-0 in the regular season but winning the Super Bowl.

Shades of the '72 Dolphins here.

Likewise, but props to those in here nibbling on some crow...at least they admit it. I keep wanting to go back and read some of those pre-season threads, but whatever...

Den sure is serving out a boat load of crow right now. I like just about everyone who watches football slated this team as one of the worse in the NFL this year heading into the season. Even after they got to 4-0 I was seriously doubting that they were that good. Though I was starting to realize they were much better than I has previously given them credit for. I will say that after watching the NE game I became a believer in the Broncos. This team has clearly got the inside track to winning their division right now. I'd say they have maybe the clearest road to that than anyone in the NFL now that they beat SD in SD. Their division is awful.

What is sad is that before the season, I looked at the schedule and thought the Chiefs would get a win in KC against Denver. Now I don't think they canbe close at halftime.
