BLOOM WINS IIL FOOTBALL CROWN

Sigmund Bloom, a writer for Footballguys.com, took home the championship of the 2008 Industry Insiders League (IIL) by using strategy and savvy to dominate the final rounds.

The league, hosted by Real Time Sports, was only open to FSWA members and featured four conferences of 12 teams apiece which used a variety of drafting methods. The season consisted of a 12-week schedule followed by a three-week championship period of the top 12 teams. To make sure there was no fluke championship, all of the teams were compared by total points and Bloom won by a whopping 123-point margin.

Bloom said that he used the league rules to his advantage as early as the draft. He noted, "Investing early in wide receivers instead of a running back [helped me along]. In a start 3-WR + flex PPR 12 team league, I think it's the only way to go." During the regular season, he said one of the highlights was "after Week 6, my team had fallen for 4-2. We came out roaring with a 150+ points in a Week 7 win, led by waiver wire pickup Dominic Rhodes." After surviving the regular season, Bloom's team took flight in the playoffs. He felt he had a good chance to win, "When Randy Moss scored his second TD, giving me the highest score in Week 15."

Bloom enjoyed competing against top industry's writers. He said, "It was a fun, challenging league."

Nice job Bloom, thats why i subscibe to FBG, the staff is very , very knowledgable. Cant wait for the IDP survivor league this year, hope I make it in, playing against you guys was awesome!!

Thanks folks - it was a good year for FBG in the FSWA, with Jeff Pasquino also getting nominated for FF Writer and Article of the Year, and I think it's just the beginning of FBG dominance in the FSWA. One of the great things about this league is that it was 48 strong and included people from Sporting News, ESPN, CBSSports and other established media sources. It feels great to show them that FBG is the king of FF analysis through a resounding win.

Congrats again, GB - and thanks for the name-drop.As Bloom said, the more the world learns about FBGs, the more they should be impressed. The victory for Bloom was a testament for how much FBGs seem to be on top of the NFL. For example, the grab of Slaton in Round 15 was ridiculous value but I'd not have expected him to last that long in a pure FBG draft (IIRC the staff leagues he didn't make it past Round 11). The knowledge base of the staff and the Shark Pool are way above most anything I've found elsewhere.

I hope so for a year. It won't be the end result though. There's alot of good FF guys scatterred around on the web, FBG simply has more in one central location(which is likely part of the JB business plan). I hope FBGs wins a bunch next year so that some of these guys "come out of the woodwork". It'll be all the more better for the hobby and FF on the web in general. Not all the FF guys on the web are in FSWA so it'll help membership too.Matt is now staff, but for this league(if he were in) he'd have been one of the others in 08. Andrew was and did well.Guys around here go to Outsiders and FFToday enough, yet those guys aren't in the FSWA league. I think it'd be good for all if more folks got involved in FSWA.

What is amazing is that Bloom's picks of Randy Moss (early on), BEdwards (all season), Schaub (injuries 1/2 the season), plus a few other clunkers did not sink him. It's not like he lucked into a couple of amazing players that carried him the whole way. He built a solid team with alot of very good mid round picks (Turner, Marshall, Forte, TGonz, Slaton, ARodgers, VJax) and seems to have worked the wire a bit.Who else did you plug in at WR? Who else did you get off the wire? Which players did you cut bait on?
