BLOOM WINS IIL FOOTBALL CROWN
Sigmund Bloom, a writer for Footballguys.com, took home the championship of the 2008 Industry Insiders League (IIL) by using strategy and savvy to dominate the final rounds.
The league, hosted by Real Time Sports, was only open to FSWA members and featured four conferences of 12 teams apiece which used a variety of drafting methods. The season consisted of a 12-week schedule followed by a three-week championship period of the top 12 teams. To make sure there was no fluke championship, all of the teams were compared by total points and Bloom won by a whopping 123-point margin.
Bloom said that he used the league rules to his advantage as early as the draft. He noted, "Investing early in wide receivers instead of a running back [helped me along]. In a start 3-WR + flex PPR 12 team league, I think it's the only way to go." During the regular season, he said one of the highlights was "after Week 6, my team had fallen for 4-2. We came out roaring with a 150+ points in a Week 7 win, led by waiver wire pickup Dominic Rhodes." After surviving the regular season, Bloom's team took flight in the playoffs. He felt he had a good chance to win, "When Randy Moss scored his second TD, giving me the highest score in Week 15."
Bloom enjoyed competing against top industry's writers. He said, "It was a fun, challenging league."
