The album was self-produced aside from one song, "The Rat," produced by Dave Sardy. The album received a great deal of critical acclaim, appearing on several critics' year-end lists. "Little House of Savages" and "What's in It for Me" were both included on hit FOX teen drama The O.C. "The Rat" was named Pitchfork's No. 6 single of the year. "The Rat" was selected for the playlist on the video game Major League Baseball 2K7. "The Rat" was listed at No. 20 on Pitchfork's top 500 songs of the 2000s and at No. 13 on NME's top 100 songs of the 2000s.

I had a tough time choosing between this and their first album, Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, but ultimately the consistency of Bow + Arrows won out. Every song is good to great. Another excellent live show as well.

Since all the songs are great it doesn't matter to me which @Scoresman chooses, but I'd probably go with Little House of Savages, The Rat, New Year's Eve or Thinking of a Dream I Had

This is the first My Morning Jacket album for which frontman Jim James does not receive a production credit; he is credited for "concept/story".

Love MMJ but other than their latest release I don’t think I’ve listened to a full album by them, usually just shuffle their entire catalog

Caught them live last year, amazing show, would definitely see them again.

I LOVE their first 4 albums but haven't felt quite the same about the last 5 ( I haven't yet listened to their new album from a few months ago, though). They still put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen, including my #1 concert experience of all time while touring for It Still Moves. It was such a great show that I changed my work schedule so I could drive from SLC to SF to see them 2 nights later.

Their live prowess along with the fact that Okonokos was recorded just after their 4th album, Z, is the reason I chose this rather than one of the studio albums. They are great on record but even better live and this album covers all those bases.

I've seen a lot of bands live. MMJ is top 5 performer.

The Rat is a pretty easy choice for me. When I did The Walkmen in a previous MAD countdown, it was my number 1 song of theirs.

They also used Crystal Blue Persuasion to good effect. But I can't say I was a huge fan of The Ballad of Heisenberg.

BB wasn’t a very music/soundtrack heavy show IIRC. Some of the intense acting was silent and perhaps music would have detracted from it. Just pure speculation about Vince Gilligan though.

Nice really glad I wasn’t the only one to include this. This is a cornerstone jazz album as good as any other that might make the list. Anyone getting into jazz should make Saxophone Colossus a priority listen.

When do we get to bands I've heard of?

Weren't you one of the "complainers" that thought the list would be all Beatles and Zeppelin?

I had assumed that the top would be a lot of chalk, yes but I was never really complaining about it. (I know that you know) I have heard of some of these but some I haven't.

Yes I put complainers in quotes because you weren’t really complaining. “Worried”
Is a better word and even that’s too strong.

The chalk really doesn’t come until Top 50 and even that has a few albums that aren’t that chalky.

"Little House of Savages" and "What's in It for Me" were both included on hit FOX teen drama The O.C. "The Rat" was named Pitchfork's No. 6 single of the year. "The Rat" was selected for the playlist on the video game Major League Baseball 2K7. "The Rat" was listed at No. 20 on Pitchfork's top 500 songs of the 2000s and at No. 13 on NME's top 100 songs of the 2000s.

I had a tough time choosing between this and their first album, Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, but ultimately the consistency of Bow + Arrows won out. Every song is good to great. Another excellent live show as well.

Since all the songs are great it doesn't matter to me which @Scoresman chooses, but I'd probably go with Little House of Savages, The Rat, New Year's Eve or Thinking of a Dream I Had

The Rat is a pretty easy choice for me. When I did The Walkmen in a previous MAD countdown, it was my number 1 song of theirs.

Hysteria is the fourth studio album by English rock band Def Leppard, released on 3 August 1987, by Mercury Records. The album is the follow-up to the band's 1983 breakthrough, Pyromania. Hysteria's creation took over three years and was plagued by delays, including the aftermath of drummer Rick Allen's accident that cost him his left arm on 31 December 1984. Subsequent to the album's release, Def Leppard published a book titled Animal Instinct: The Def Leppard Story, written by Rolling Stone magazine senior editor David Fricke, on the three-year recording process of Hysteria and the difficult times the band endured through the mid-1980s. Lasting 62 minutes and 32 seconds, it is the band's longest studio album to date.

I listened to this album for the first time when walking my dog today. It’s probably not one Id return to often, as it’s a little too heavy for my current tastes but I really liked it and will probably add a few songs like “The Rat” (which is fantastic) and “138th Street” to some playlists.
