Consensus Top 350 Albums of All-Time: 119. #1 Record – Big Star (66 Viewers)

119 (tie). #1 Record – Big Star (196 points)

#1 Record is the debut studio album by the American rock band Big Star. It was released on April 24, 1972, by Memphis-based Ardent Records.

Many critics praised the album's vocal harmonies and songcraft but #1 Record suffered from poor distribution and sold fewer than 10,000 copies upon its initial release. However, #1 Record gained wider attention in the late 1970s in the UK when EMI reissued it with Radio City as a double LP package due to increasing demand. The same combination was used when the album was released on CD in 1992. It is now widely-regarded as a seminal work in pop rock and power pop. In 2020 it was ranked number 474 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Rolling Stone also ranked the song "Thirteen" as number 406 on its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It was voted number 188 in the third edition of Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums (2000).

Hey, I get to choose one! I wonder what I might choose... :)

I had a near-miss on Grace. I hope @ConstruxBoy chooses wisely. My favorites are Last Goodbye and Lover, You Should've Come Over.
Lover would definitely be my choice from Grace.
That's what I was going to pick. Can someone please add Lover, You Should've Come Over to the playlist?
Added.

Damn, I'm still not finding the "add" button to put my selection on the playlist. I'm dumb. @Pip's Invitation , you know which one I want. :)
Under the title of playlist there should be an oval with “add +” in it.

It's not there. This is bizarre.

I go to the song on the album on Spotify (phone app version).
Click the ... to the right of the chosen song.
Click the + Add to playlist option
Click the desired playlist you want to add to.

But the other way also works for me, again from the phone app.

Superunknown is the fourth studio album by American rock band Soundgarden, released on March 8, 1994, through A&M Records. Produced by Michael Beinhorn and the band themselves, Soundgarden began work on the album after touring in support of their previous album, Badmotorfinger (1991). Superunknown retained the heaviness of the band's earlier releases while displaying a more diverse range of influences.

Superunknown was a critical and commercial success and became the band's breakthrough album. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 310,000 copies in its opening week.

Pyromania is the third studio album by English rock band Def Leppard, released on 20 January 1983 through Vertigo Records in UK and Europe and through Mercury Records in the US. The first album to feature guitarist Phil Collen who replaced founding member Pete Willis, Pyromania was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The album was a shift away from the band's traditional heavy metal roots toward a more radio-friendly sound, finding massive mainstream success. Pyromania charted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, No. 4 on the Canadian RPM Album chart and No. 18 on the UK Albums Chart. Selling over ten million copies in the US, it has been certified diamond by the RIAA

Yep, there's just something weird here. I can't do it that way, either. I saved it in my library. I can see it's in my library. When I get to the song and try to add to a playlist, it doesn't give me this one as an option to add it to, nor does it come up in a search of my playlists. But on the My Library page, it's there.

Oh well, will just continue to rely on the kindness of strangers. Could someone please put The Ballad of El Goodo on there, if you haven't already?

Added. Great song.

Big Star was a band I wanted on my list but I had a hard time choosing one. Overall I prefer the weird, dark imperfections of Third/Sister Lovers. It's a difficult listen but that's what I love about it.

Did you get the special link that invites you to edit? That’s what messed me up earlier. I had the link to the playlist but somewhere else there was a link posted that allows you editing access.

Oh, OK. I'm just using the link in the first post. Maybe that's not the one?

It’s not but I don’t know where the post is with the link that allows you to add.

The other day "Rock of Ages" came on the radio, and there was about 15 seconds left in the song when I reached my destination, so I waited for the "We're gonna burn this damn place down, woohoo, down to the ground." 🔥
