Contract from 12 to 10 teams (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to take a 12 team league down to 10 teams?

This is a standard league thats has been together for 10 years. Most owners have been

around for at least 8 years. However, it seems we have a one or two team turn around each

year. Rather than search for two new owners this year, I thought I'd ask the other owners about

dropping to 10 teams. Before I do, I was hoping to find a creative way of doing so.

The two teams being dropped have some decent players such as Rivers, Schaub, McNabb, S.Greene, Lynch, etc.

Thank you for any ideas you may have... and if not, thanks anyway:)

Why is the turnaround so high? Maybe there is a reason that people are leaving and that needs to be looked at.Also, is it a salary cap league? If so, it should be easy. Have a bidding war as if they were free agents. If not, the only thing to do, IMO, is to have a draft using team record to dictate the order.

If this is a keeper/dynasty, you have two choices.

1) All players on those teams enter the main/rookie draft.

2) You have a supplemental draft prior to the rookie draft where all players on those teams enter, as well as any previously unclaimed non-rookies.

The better method will likely depend on how your league deals with free agents.

If redraft, and it's what everyone wants, no problem, just do it.

However, I personally greatly prefer the dynamics of a 12-team league over a 10-team. Make sure your returning leaguemates share your perspective before proceeding forward or else there will be all sorts of negativity brewing.

 My favorite big money league went down from 12-10 a couple of years ago. Hasn't been half as much fun.

Thanks for the response.

I don't consider losing one or two people a year very high. Like I said before, most owners

are originals or, at least have been around the past eight years. It always seems to be the new

guys that try it out for a year or two and leave. Some people lose interest after a while.

There is no drama so there is no problem there.

Yes, I forgot to mention this is a dynasty league. We keep our full roster at the end of each year.

Adding the old teams players to the draft seemed like the only option to me as well.

I must agree that the 12 team format works best. The rosters, schedule and divisions all work better

that way. This is not a big money league. Mostly for fun. Champ gets $100 and a trophy. Runner-up

gets $10 towards next years league fee paid. I throw a draft party every year.

Thanks again for helping me weigh my options. I think I'll take the sound advice that 12 teams

is better than 10. I'll find two new owners.

Stick with 12, changing it to ten isn't guaranteed less of a turnover, as you said there are multiple different reasons people leave, and you can't predict who will from year to year till you know.

Sticking with 12 also gives you some margin of error in case it's more than 1 or 2 teams that drop out in a year. Worse case then is you have at least 10 teams and then try to grow it back the following year. A dynasty league that has been running 10 years is worth a lot to keep going.
