From anything I've ever seen or read, guys in contract years perform the same as guys in any other contract situation. Some do better, some do the same, and some do worse. Given that a player can be cut at anytime anyway, being signed is not an excuse to coast or you face getting released anyway.

Sorry, David, I wasn't very clear, was I. :11: Who are the upcoming RFA's and UFA's for the 2007-2008 season.

Best Example: Muhsin Muhammad blew up in 2004, coming out of nowhere it seemed... when his contarct was ending.

I'm not saying that ALL players do it for the money, but it can be an excellent motivator for players who have the opportunity to improve their situations this year by solidifying their spots on their existing rosters or by testing free agency next year.
