A king dies. Two men claim to be the long-lost son of the king and rightful heir to the throne. A wise man proposes a test to figure out who is the real heir. One of the purported heirs agrees to the test, the other declines. The wise man identifies the man who refused to take the test as the true heir.
So what's the question here? Is it: How did the wise man know? Is it: What was the test? Is it something else?
All of the above. You need to be able to explain the situation fully.

King had hemophilia, which was in turn passed on to his son. The wise man's test is to cut the two contenders, which ever one keeps bleeding is the real Prince. Real Prince declines cause it is better to be a live Prince than a dead King.

Is this like the Seinfeld episode with Kramer and Elaine fighting over a pink bicycle?

The wise man proposed a fight to the death, but the man who refused would rather see someone else take the throne than see one of his own people killed?

:goodposting: The wise man suggests a blood test. The king and his true heir both were hemophiliacs. That was fast. I'll try one more.

I believe the question is what was the test.

Did the test risk the life of the heir and the heir valued their life more for his kingdom's sake then to prove to a wiseman that he was the true heir?

My favorite:

Man journeys to hell and sees eight men sitting around a table covered with delicious food. All the men can eat with are four foot long chopsticks. Everyone is hungry.

Same man journeys to heaven and sees eight men sitting around a table covered with delicious food. All the men can eat with are four foot long chopsticks. Everyone is happy.

Why?

Is the purporse of this conundrum to guess the type of food?

chopsticks are on fire in hell?

Are the people in Hell more than four feet away from the food?

Is the food in Hell liquid?

Is there something between the people in Hell and the food in Hell?

Is the material the chopsticks are made of relevant?

Do the people in Heaven have the same kind (or kinds) of food as the people in Hell?

Do the people in Heaven have identical chopsticks to the people in Hell?

Are the people in Heaven closer to the food than the people in Hell?

Were there any bicycles in the cabin?
No.
In the version I first heard there were. It's a good red herring. They were Bicycle brand playing cards.
There's a different conundrum I've heard using bicycle brand cards. Something like "a man lies dead on the floor. Around him are 53 bicycles." You're supposed to figure out that he got shot for cheating at cards.
That's probably better than mine. Have you heard the one about albatross soup?

A cabin, on the side of a mountain, locked from the inside, is opened, and 30 people are found dead inside. They had plenty of food and water.
Didn't mean to get the last one that quickly, sorry to spoil the fun.
No. And you don't need to use spoiler tags if you're really guessing.
Course, what fun is it to look something up? Did they die in the cabin?

A man heard of the Great Northeast blackout of 1965 on his car radio. Knowing his mother just died he turned around.

Why did he turn around and why did his mother die?

Was she on life support--an iron lung (it was 1965)?
It was 1965, she was on life support and he was heading to the hospital. I'm going to have to try to remember harder ones if I want to fill in at all for FGILC.

If I may, I'll put one out here...

This is a most unusual paragraph. How quickly can you find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so ordinary that you would think that nothing is wrong with it at all, and, in fact, nothing is. But it is unusual. Why? If you study it and think about it, you may find out, but I am not going to assist you in any way. You must do it without any hints or coaching. No doubt, if you work at it for a bit, it will dawn on you. Who knows? Go to work and try your skill. Good luck! What is so unusual about this paragraph?

This paragraph is written without using the letter 'e'.
