Copying Old Hard Drives (1 Viewer)

rascal

Footballguy
I have two hard drives (from laptops) that I want to copy some files from.

One is a MK6021gas and the other is a 9HH132-022...I have no idea what to buy.

Help!

Assuming 2.5" drives-

Go to Amazon or NewEgg or TigerDirect or EBay or where ever you prefer and search for "2.5" to USB hard drive adapter". If you are just doing this one time get the cheapest thing there that doesn't have a bunch of dead on arrival comments.

Now the tricky part it looks like MK6021gas is IDE and the 9HH132-022 is SATA so you probably want a cable that does both such as this random example.

Oh, if you are in a hurry make sure you aren't getting something air mailed from China, if you aren't you'll probably find something unbelievably cheap.

(I'm not sure if I have ever used either of the sample products, but historically I have done what you suggest a good bit . In general my experiences is the cheap ones work for what I think is your purpose, but some also don't last very long. If you intend to actually attach and use these drives everyday get a better, more solid recommendation. I tend to go with the 99 cent options and not care about the wait or if occasionally one is DOA (or no shows)- but that is just my wants and needs. )

The other option, assuming the laptops are both functioning, would be to just copy the files over the network. Or use Google Drive or something.

I have one of those USB drive things mentioned above. The adapter for mine is square. One side has inputs for power and the USB cord. The other sides are all different size/width Hard Drive adapters. I bought it several years back, and I think I paid less than $30 for it. Very useful to get old stuff off of any hard drive.

I believe this is what I have. Does IDE (2.5" and 3.5") and Sata. Works well.
