Could the Pats 2nd team beat the Jets and Dolphins at home? (1 Viewer)

I know - we shouldn't be talking about 16-0. But thinking about it - should the Pats have everything wrapped up early and they sit Brady, Moss, and company, I think they have a realistic shot at winning in week 15 and 16 anyways.

I think it is very possible that they will be 13-0 and start sitting people to be strong for the playoffs. If that happens and Matt Cassel, etc beats Miami and the Jets and are 15-0, would they risk injury vs the Giants to close it out? I'm thinking that in this hypothetical, they might open things back up just to reach for immortality.

I think the Pats second team could beat both the Jets and the Dolphins in a doubleheader played the same day. Throw in the Bills, too. You've seen these teams, right? We're in Week 7 and none of them have won a game outside the division yet. Probably some kind of record.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats went for it if they got to 14 or 15 & 0. They already have 3 rings and going undefeated would cement them as a dynasty and one of the greatest teams of all time. Why not at least give Brady & Co. a half to get a good lead?

That said I hope Indy is sitting at just one loss coming up to the end so they have to push to maintain home field (except week 17 where they would have the tiebreaker and it would just have to be about going undefeated).

With BB's ego and the fact that many team who have sit their starters have come out cold after basically not playing a game for 3 weeks, I could see them starting the starters till the end.

I can't wait for the following threads:

Could 7 Patriot players on off. and def. beat Oakland?

IF the Pats all had the ebola virus could they beat St Louis.

IF Brady threw with his left hand could they still beat Miami.

We get it.

Im thinking if 15-0 were to ever happen, theyd play the hand out, and start all their guys. But I just dont see it happening. And their 2nd team isnt beating the Jets, but possibly Miami at this point considering their dire situation. No team is deep enough to start all backups. I can see NE giving some of those guys rest down the stretch no matter what their record is. Theyve got freakish depth at Oline, Dline, and LB. And theyll play Samuels and Hobbs, their 2 starting CBs, every minute theyre able. These guys can score enough points in 3 quarter to beat most teams. But no way are they beating the Giants unless they load up and play every guy with all cylinders firing. The Giants are gonna be looking to give NE a beatdown that last week.

You've got a 53 man roster, take away the 22 starters on offense and defense, plus Gostkowski(K), Hanson(P), Welker(PR), and whoever the Long Snapper is you're down to 27 total players, only 3 or 4 of whom are O-linemen and no kickers. Ain't gonna happen. In fact, it's kind of silly to even think about it.

Now, can they beat those teams if they rest a couple players for most of the game? That's a completely different question.

well, yeah, thats the implication here.

 however - please don't confuse me as a Pat's homer - this is not intended to be a "we're underappreciated!" thread, merely speculation.

Apparently you haven't if you think this.

Hyperbole down? I've had the misfortune of watching the Bills in two full games, although I've been spared the Jets and Dolphins. Is your angle that they're the best 1-4, 1-5 and 0-6 teams ever?

No, but if the Bills 2nd string could almost take out DAL, and DAL's first string could hold NE down until garbage time, I'd say that NE's second string team would have a difficult time against the Bills 2nd string, much less the Bills first string. But on the Jets and Dolphins - yeah I'm pretty sure they'd have a tough time against the PAt's second stringers.

Honestly, I think the Bills are the one team that could pull out a decent season. Three of their four losses are to the Pats, Cowboys and Steelers. The other was a literal last second defeat. Plus they've had a slew of injuries. I probably shouldn't pile on the entire division, but it's still remarkable how none of the trio have been able to win outside the division and we're past the middle of October.

That's not what the title of the thread says. Say what you mean... mean what you say.

if they cheat like the 1st team does, then they have a good chance.

If the Pats QB knows the defense and the refs let the OL hold at will - that's a big advantage to overcome even against 2nd stringers
