Could truthiness kill the jury system? (1 Viewer)

Since OJ, i havent followed any high-profile trials and generally dont have much interest in the misfortunes of strangers unless their issues highlight something systemic. I scanned a brief The Ringer account of the Cosby mistrial this morning to see if anything noteworthy in sex assault trials would be coming from it when it stuck me - holy ####, how the hell can we expect 12-0 jury verdicts at all in a world where a significant segment of society finds right in embracing flat-earth theories, false-news claims & jus'-cuz stances with regularity & impunity?

Most intelligent people will find a way out of jury duty while lazy and stupid people will try to get selected for the jury. See Casey Anthony. If you are a criminal, you have a real chance of getting acquitted.

There is no constitutional requirement of unanimity in jury verdicts.  Even in criminal trials.  For instance, except for capital cases, you can be convicted by 10 out of 12 jurors in Louisiana.  In civil cases, lots of jurisdictions only require super majority even a bare majority.  So I guess my answer would be for states to amend their laws.  But I doubt the trend has changed much.

After having been on a jury.  I am simply amazed at how little people actually pay attention and care about whether another human being goes to prison.  Good thing I cared.  Because the guy we had wasn't guilty.  If somebody had been foreman besides me, who knows.

Then we have the selfish intelligent citizens of the country to blame.
