Could we have some additional job requirements for POTUS? (1 Viewer)

Right now, I think there would be bipartisan consensus that all POTUS candidates must:

Release all Federal tax returns for the past 10 years

Present a plan whereby all business (including foundation) interests must have an irrevocable (if elected) plan whereby the control of those entities would be run by a third party without financial interest.

Failure to comply within 14 days of nomination would preclude their ability to be on the ballot

Other suggestions?

- Minimum two years experience in any elected position

- Birth Certificate

- HS Diploma or GED

- Two years of military or other service

- base DoD clearance / background check

- credit report

They need to pass a psychological test to show they are a relatively sane person and not some kind of pyschopathic *******/#####.

I was chatting with my 35 year old nephew today and it dawned on me how awesome he is and how much I suck. It's generational. I think baby boomers are analog citizens in a digital world. We need to step aside. No one born before 1965. I'm 1962. Obama is 61, close but still a boomer. We need to let it go. The world has passed us by.

No sane person wants to be president. Literally, in order to run, you have to wake up one morning and say "The problem with this world is I'm not running it." No rational human being would even consider the job.
It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it... anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

Thank you. Why can't there be bipartisan support for this in both parties?

Candidates should provide waivers for:

- tax returns - this should be all encompassing so even LLC's and non-profits.

- birth certificates (it's a constitutional requirement folks).

- college transcripts.

- military discharge records.

Should at least be qualified to get the same security clearance that DoD food service and janitorial personnel have

I just wish @mad sweeney was still around, he was convinced last time that the CIA or NSA does a secret background check on everyone who runs for office to ensure they're qualifed to handle national security secrets and nuclear weapons. Guy was so thickheaded in denial about it. Would really like him to see how wrong he was.
Shocker

I'm sure he would have handled it well.

I would like to see a military service requirement.
Do we really want a president that is professionally trained to take orders? I also have a problem with the military part. But I'd be willing to compromise on some sort of "service" requirement.

There are a thousand reasons not have a military service requirement, the first being the military isn't anywhere near big enough.. this is pretty weak though.  Just about anyone with a shred of character comes out of military service better than they went in.

We should disqualify anyone that wants to be President.  There should be a committee to find someone qualified that doesn't want to President and force that person to be President.

It plays a role in my voting, or potentially does.  I also think that being in a war almost constantly since the early 90's changes the nature of the presidency.  I'd hate to see it as a requirement though.  Maybe I'm naïve, but I'd like to think that somewhere down the road, we aren't engaged in this much warfare.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children." - Eisenhower

There should be an application required. It should include:

  • Background check -- no felony convictions or pending felony charges/investigations, no dependency problems (substance abuse, gambling, etc.), credit report, etc.
  • Birth certificate -- as others have said
  • All tax returns, personal and business -- all encompassing for past 10 years (at least), as @SaintsInDome2006 said
  • Thorough medical examination by independent physician (i.e., not personal physician), with comprehensive assessment of physical and mental fitness for the position
  • College transcripts, where applicable -- but college degree not required
  • Public/military service records, where applicable -- but public/military service not required
Anyone who is not wiling to meet these terms should not be eligible to run.

TSSCI with polygraph should be the clearance level at a minimum. I mean they get access to everything.  Do some due diligence on their history.
