Counting on Broncos this week? (1 Viewer)

The switch to the Giants/Panthers has a HUGE impact on the fantasy playoffs this week, which, for the majority of us, is the Fantasy Super Bowl.

The Sunday Night game was originally San Diego at Tampa Bay, 8:15 start.

This would've necessitated the Broncos needing to play all out Sunday afternoon vs. Buffalo, to keep a step ahead of the Chargers.

But now, with the "flex" option utilized (moving Jints/Panthers to Sunday night), the San Diego/Tampa outcome could result in the Broncos taking that Buffalo game off, for the most part.

If the Chargers lose the early game to the Bucs, then the Broncos clinch the AFC West, and can do little to improve their seeding. That may pave the way for a VERY short leash on: Cutler/Marshall/Royal/Scheffler, etc.

I'm counting on Cutler/Marshall myself, so I'll be rootin' like all hell for the Chargers, but ... the Bucs are tough at home, San Diego is mired in mediocrity ... travelling cross country .... the "early" start ... and the Bucs are in a must win sitch as well.

In other words .... doesn't look good for the Broncos stars playing a full game at full speed at 4:15.

That "flex" switcheroo made an enormous impact here.

If you're counting on any of the Denver players, hopefully you have other options in the late games/Monday game to offset the problem if the Chargers lose.

LET'S GO CHARGERS!!!!

I think the Broncos will play all of their starters for a full game in week 16 regardless if the Chargers win their game or not. Do you really think the Broncos want to lose two games in a row? I don't.

Interesting, but I don't really know about that. Winning more games before the season ends gives them a shot at another home game during the playoffs if TEN or PIT lose. Also, as it stands, winning more looks like they'd play the Dolphins instead of the Colts. Probably something they'd rather have.

Blackout in the locker room

Go ahead, San Diego Chargers. Beat Tampa Bay. Or don't beat Tampa Bay, for all the Broncos care.

Either way, the Broncos won't pay attention to the early game Sunday between the Chargers, who trail Denver by two games in the AFC West, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"We're not going to have the TV on," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. "Hopefully, it won't be up on the scoreboard. We're going to try to work with that if we can. We're going to try to take care of business and try to play our best game and not worry about something we can't control."

The Chargers and Tampa Bay kick off at 11 a.m., and the Broncos play the Buffalo Bills at 2 p.m. at Invesco Field at Mile High. If the Chargers lose, the Broncos will clinch the AFC West title, possibly before kickoff at Invesco. If the Chargers win, the pressure will be on the Broncos to beat the Bills to avoid a final-game showdown with the Chargers in San Diego.

"I think that's smart," Broncos cornerback Josh Bell said. "We could relax a little bit (if Tampa Bay wins), thinking: 'Playoffs, man! Playoffs!' You never know the mind-set of certain individuals on the team. So to prevent that from happening, Coach Shanahan is doing what a coach should do and minimize the distractions."

Upon reflection, Shanahan indicated the early game Sunday between the Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs might have affected the way his team played against the Carolina Panthers.

The Chargers rallied from a 21-3 second-quarter deficit to defeat the Chiefs 22-21. The Broncos watched the first half of that game, when it appeared the Chargers were going down. It was some time after kickoff they discovered the Chiefs failed to finish.

The Broncos then were trounced 30-10 by the Panthers.

"I think I made a mistake by allowing that — I normally allow that to happen, except for about an hour and a half before the game," Shanahan said. "So we get a chance to watch the first half of most games, because we get in the locker room early.

"But it does take some emotion out of you, just watching. So we won't have any TVs on. We'll take care of business and not worry about Tampa Bay and San Diego and hopefully control our own destiny."

The good news is that Tampa Bay isn't playing all that well, so I think Tampa versus SD is about a coin flip as to who wins.

Even with a San Diego loss, Denver can't afford to rest their players and get blown out.

They didn't impress last week versus Carolina and in week 17, they could rest some players in the 2nd half. No way they just start resting players and don't have a solid outing.

Sure, it's important to be healthy but confidence in your playing ability is also important and if Denver loses this game and then again in week 17....it would be a horrible coaching decision on Shanny's part.

i'm seeing all of your points here, guys ....i guess the gist of my post was trying to convey how the switch of the two games (NY/CAR, SD/TB) is greatly impacting Sunday afternoon.i hear you all on the "needing to stay sharp" angle, but .... honestly, if it IS wrapped up by game time, do you think Shanny runs those guys ALL OUT? if someone gets a minor tweak, and the Broncos have already clinched, i can all but guarantee that they will be yanked.

Ya, but you're putting together too many "What if's"You're acting like San Diego who's in a must win situation already lost and now you're saying if someone gets injured, they'll be pulled. You're right, if SD loses and if someone gets hurt, Shanny won't put that player at risk. But you can't think like that or you wouldn't sleep at night. San Diego's probably going to win.....either way Shanny has said they don't even want to know who won the game between SD and Tampa before they play and won't have it on the board. The focus is on them playing well. Those are the facts.......that is what you have to focus on and deal with.

I'm am a little worried but that's just because I have Cutler, Marshall, and Royal going. I think they play the whole game unless they blow buffalo out even if SD loses. This is a young up and down team, I think they want to enter the playoffs playing at a high level.

Well ya....I think if you have all 3 of them going on one team, anything Denver would make you nervous at this point. Hopefully the Buffalo D plays like they did in the 1st half of last week's game on not the 2nd half.

Nobody wants to back into the playoffs. They might create an artificial bye to give their players some week 17 rest, but they've been playing poorly and can't afford a larger losing streak to enter the post-season.

Expect a full game in fornt of the home crowd to ensure a winning record and some momentum.

... moot point now, kids ...

HELL of an effort by the Bolts in Tampa!

benched Warner ... have Cutler/Marshall ready to go ... to try and deliver me the Title.
