Cowboys 2 TE Set- What is your teams base offense? (1 Viewer)

Without any analysis at this point, my gut tells me that this formation is good for the Cowboys passing game, and may be a challenge for the running game. The set the Cowboys are going to run is called "Ace Tight" I believe.

My goal is to do some analysis to see if there is any correlation to the "base offense" a team runs and the success or lack thereof for both the running and passing games. Looking for fan and homer input.

Please tell me your teams base offense.

Brady put up 4100 yards in the 2-TE offense

So far its worked beautifully. It actually helps the running game in some ways because if an OL goes down, the TEs can be kept back for run blocking, or moved around like a H-back to block. It generally gives the QB more quick options in the short field, and lets the coach have more blockers coming from more directions. I'd say that it should help Bledsoes numbers and make the running game more efficient.

I absolutely LOVE the 2-TE set. If I were an OC, it would be my base offense. You can do lots of things with that personnel. The key is the TEs. If both of them are good receivers & decent blockers, it puts a lot of pressure on the defense. You can also move to a standard offense rather easily (by moving one of the TEs to FB) or even go to a spread offense with the same personnel (again, if the TEs are versatile).

I believe Witten & Fasano are perfect. Not sure what it'll do to Witten's numbers. I need to think about it some more, but it won't make a huge difference, IMO.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the 49ers employ it more. If Johnson can stay healthy, and VD can assimilate quickly, it gives them a lot of different options.

The additional TE on the line gives Smith more time due to blocking. ANd, with his 4.38 speed, Davis can be split out wide for mismatches on a safety or LB. All this without a change of personnel (which eliminates the Defenses abiliuty to send in players to respond to the formations).

You also need a great blocking RB. That's one of the reasons why I think the Colts were very happy to get Addai even if he's not the runner Maroney is.

I found some great data that reports yards by formation. I am currently compiling some data and will report my NFC RB findings very soon.

This is why I'm excited about the Pats offense this year. The two TEs we drafted plus Graham and Watson. Perfect personnel for this type of offense.

Washington will likely be 2TE/1RB this year.

not sure that I agree with this. I think they will play from the 3 WR set a good deal. A lineup with Portis, Cooley, Moss, ARE and Lloyd would be tough to defense.

Honestly, I'm not sure they'll have a "base offense." But, I do believe they'll run more plays out of a 2TE set than a 3WR set. I guess it all depends on how much time they spend leading games and trailing games.

With Al Sauders there now, I wouldnt expect the same offense as last year. The Redskins will be an interesting team this season.
