There was a shooting at a nightclub last night and I believe four were dead. I wonder if he was there. But never the less, the loss of a loved one (especially considering the circumstances) it tough.

MKB4...thanks for editting your Sirius NFL post.

Edit: I have deleted my previously unconfirmed rumors.

Thankfully, they are not true.

OK...my bad!!! The ESPN lady actually said, "Keith Davis got shot in the head and thigh", not died. Sorry, about that....it was very hard to understand her, but I went back (thanks to DVR technology) and replayed it after knowing now what had happened, and I could actually understand what she said more clearly.

Not to be cold and only look at the football angle of this but...

The injuries are now being reported as not being life threatening. So what do the Cowboys do now at free saftey? All they have is Willie Pile and the rookie Pat Watkins. I think they should seriously start thinking about making some sort of trade or picking up free agent Lance Schulters. He's still out there. Last I heard he was flirting with the Seahawks but he didn't sign with them.

Bankerguy, you sure you got the right Tex because I don;t really know who you are, and I don;t have any PMs.

good to hear injuries don't appear to life threatening

hope he has a full recovery... in early stages, there are a whole range of possibilities with a head wound that could involve being stable but having some level of future impairment...

based on sound of it, football should be least of his worries & he is lucky to be alive... getting shot twice in three years, he must have a guardian angel (though guardian angel didn't keep him away from strip club first time)... this dude has been shot more than tupac shakur.

Hey Prime, from what I understand there a huge learning curve for this young man but Bill likes him. He'll be watching over his shoulder because Bill is even higher on the kid from FSU.

Safety feels blessed he can joke about shooting

By JEAN-JACQUES TAYLOR and BRANDON FORMBY / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – As Dallas Cowboys safety Keith Davis gingerly leaned forward Sunday evening to touch the bullet still lodged in his right thigh, he revealed a blood-splattered pillow.

"My head has been leaking, but that's OK," he said. "I've got a big head, and my braids still look good," he said with a chuckle. "As soon as I realized I got hit, I started applying pressure to the spot. I was a kinesiology major in college. I guess I learned something from all of those courses."

Mr. Davis, 27, said it was a blessing to be able to joke about having a bullet graze the back of his head and another lodge in his thigh. He was shot while driving along Interstate 635 early Sunday morning.

The incident, which remains under investigation, marks the second time in three years that Mr. Davis has been shot. The last time, the Cowboys released him the day before the start of training camp in 2003.

"I was just minding my own business driving home, and I didn't quite make it," he said. "I'm a victim."

Police said Mr. Davis was driving west on the highway near the Dallas North Tollway about 5 a.m. Sunday. A dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows pulled alongside his candy-apple red Chevrolet Impala with 22-inch rims, and someone inside shot at him and his passenger several times, leaving five bullet holes in the rear passenger door, blowing off the inside door panel and shredding the back seats.

"I was driving down 635 talking with a friend, and I had just passed a truck when I heard a pop and the back window shattered," Mr. Davis said. "I just put my head down and mashed the gas, and told my friend to get down.

"Then I heard boom! boom! boom! boom! boom! It was so loud. I got on the tollway and drove about halfway to the hospital before I pulled over and let my friend drive."

His passenger, whose name was not released Sunday, drove Mr. Davis to RHD Memorial Medical Center in Farmers Branch.

Later Sunday, he was transferred to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. He expects to be released today. Mr. Davis said a brain scan revealed only a bruise.

Referring to the bullet in his thigh, Mr. Davis said, "They're going to wait just a little bit before they take it out because they don't want to take a chance that infection or anything else will set in. The leg is really nothing. They want to be careful with the head to make sure there's no internal bleeding or anything like that."

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said Sunday that the team would have no comment about the shooting.

"He's expected to fully recover, and no one has stated anything about being unable to play football," said Curtis Stephens, Mr. Davis' agent. "We're expecting him to make tackles on the field and special teams when the season starts."

Lt. Rick Watson said that although police were still working on determining a motive and finding suspects, they believed the incident might have been an attempted carjacking because Mr. Davis' car was in excellent condition and had been modified.

"Through the investigation, the victim has not indicated he has any enemies or has been in any altercations at this time," Lt. Watson said.

Mr. Davis said authorities told him that shots to the rear passenger door were an indication that the gunmen weren't trying to kill him and his passenger.

At the time of the shooting, Mr. Davis said, he was returning home from Shreveport, La., where he had spent the weekend with friends and family.

"I wasn't going to go home, but I had missed church the previous Sunday," said Mr. Davis, "and we've got training camp coming up, and I didn't want to miss another Sunday. We were going to get home in time to change clothes and head to church."

Mr. Davis spent much of the day in the intensive care unit chatting with a steady stream of visitors, from his pastor, Rickie G. Rush of the Inspiring Body of Christ Church, to former Sam Houston teammate Joey Mitchell, one of his best friends.

There were also phone calls from teammates Roy Williams, Terence Newman, Jason Ferguson and Anthony Henry and trainer Jim Maurer before Mr. Davis said the nursing staff confiscated his phone so he would rest.

From the time he was shot until he was transferred to Baylor, Mr. Davis made several phone calls to friends and family when he wasn't being treated or speaking with detectives.

"At first, I told him to quit playing with me," said Cody Davis, a cousin. "He said, 'Kinfolk, I been hit.' It was unbelievable because he said he had been shot in the head, but he was still talking to me.

"He kept repeating it, so I figured he wasn't joking. And it was so early Sunday morning that I thought something might be going on."

He phoned Mr. Rush at 5:30 a.m.

"I couldn't talk. There was just silence on the phone," Mr. Davis said. "I finally told him I had been shot. I explained the situation to him, and we started praying. I told him I didn't do anything. I was just coming home."

In 2003, Mr. Davis was shot in the elbow and right hip outside a Dallas strip club. He said he was there to pick up a friend about 2:15 a.m. June 29 and was nearly run over by a car as an argument began. Soon thereafter, shots were fired. He later said that his girlfriend became involved in a dispute and he had tried to protect her.

The 2003 shooting came not long after a stern warning from then-new coach Bill Parcells to the team about avoiding off-field troubles.

Mr. Davis re-signed with the Cowboys in January 2004 and played well in NFL Europe. He was an excellent special teams player for the Cowboys in 2004 and started 15 games at free safety in 2005.

During the 2004 Cowboys training camp, Mr. Parcells called Mr. Davis to the front of the team meeting room and had him show his teammates his scars as a warning not to get into trouble on their first night off of training camp.

Mr. Davis, who was raised in Italy, Texas, finished fourth on the team last season with 66 tackles and led the team with 16 special-teams tackles.

"I'm truly blessed and thankful. It's by the grace of God that I didn't have a serious injury," he said. "I was leaning quite a bit. If I had been sitting straight up, I might not be here."

This doesn't sound like a car jacking, more like a murder attempt.

Webb Chapel at 635... not exactly a great place to be at 5AM, either.
You have to figure the freeway is safe though. That general area is sketchy, but he wasn't in the residential area it seems.
