Cowboys show interest in Caldwell (1 Viewer)

What impact would this have on Patrick Crayton's seemingly skyrocketing value with Glenn likely done for the season? Would Crayton remain the #2 WR even if they signed Caldwell? Or would Caldwell be the #2 guy and a must pick up??From Rotoworld:

The Cowboys have contacted the player rep for free agent Reche Caldwell.Caldwell, the Patriots' leading receiver in 2006, was drafted by the Chargers in 2002 and played against then-coordinator Wade Phillips' defense in practice the last few years. Phillips knows Caldwell's shortcomings, which were much more obvious in San Diego than they were in New England.Source: Dallas Morning News Related: Cowboys

Sam Hurd is better than Caldwell.

OK, but what about the impact on Crayton?? Are you saying Caldwell would be the #4 WR behind TO, Crayton, and Hurd??

Sam Hurd is better than Caldwell.

Crayton struggles with some of the bigger DBs and that's where Hurd and Miles come in. Neither of which has very much experience. Reche would probably just be veteran insurance. I don't think he'd threaten anyone's production really

Caldwell would be no threat to Crayton. He would be nothing more than a guy with some experience deep in the depth chart. Probably behind Hurd a #4WR or behind Miles at #5.

I doubt they are interested in Caldwell to start; but it might signal that Glenn's injury is season ending and they want some depth.

:excited: Crayton is 6' 205 - Hurd is 6' 2" 195 - not exactly a world of difference. Austin, at 215 an 6' 3" I'll give you - but Crayton is faster than Hurd and has better hands. I don't know much about Austin (i.e. hands, speed, etc.) but other than 2 inches, Hurd has little else over Crayton.

I do agree that Caldwell isn't going to hurt anyone's numbers though.

Just something I've heard about Crayton. His size doesn't matter(for this post/topic) just the DBs. For whatever reason some have noticed the bigger DBs give him difficulty. One WR does better at one thing than the other guy. I didn't say Hurd is much bigger. It was just conversation but pretty sure I've read it too. I'll look for a link for you. Can't find the link, off to work

This Wade quote:

More about Crayton?

Crayton is dependable, a heady player, he will be in the right place. I said before somehow he’s always open, he’ll run a crossing route and the defenders get mixed up, he fakes a guy and the defender falls down, he’s been really open in preseason. He has a knack for getting open from the slot. He can play outside too and will have to.

seems to be in too many articles. The article I'm searching for basically said he had trouble with bigger DBs, Wade loved him in the slot, so...he'd likely play more in the slot. I thought searching for that quote about the slot would be easier but apparently wasted my time. Sorry gotta go to work
