Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said today he expects injured receiver Terrell Owens to return to practice Wednesday.
The Cowboys, who had a bye last week, practiced today for the first time since Friday. Owens, who is recovering from surgery to repair the broken ring finger in his right hand, did light work but did not participate in team drills.
"The swelling is down pretty good," Parcells said, referring to Owens' hand. "He caught some balls. He ran a lot today. I think tomorrow he might do something."
Parcells said Owens' status for Sunday's game at Tennessee would be decided later this week.
Rookie Sam Hurd is expected to start should Owens be unavailable.
Owens suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Cowboys' 27-10 victory over Washington on Sept. 17. A plate was placed in his right hand during surgery the following day.
In other injury news, receiver Terry Glenn practiced today despite cutting his left thumb while taping his hand before practice Monday. Parcells called off the workout after the team stretched and had a brief walkthrough.
"He's fine," Parcells said of Glenn.
Tight end Jason Witten was excused from practice today because his wife is pregnant and expected to go into labor, Parcells said.
