Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Clause.Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This guy just reeks. First item on the list of thing that must be done should get a check mark. Some inside sources I have within the Denver Broncos have told me that DC Coyer will be fired/released tomorrow or Wednesday.
Yup, Orangemane is reporting it too, any names on who the replacement could, please don't be in house.Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Clause.Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This guy just reeks. To be fair, the putrid offense was rectified by the "genius" move of going to a rookie QB.Pick one criticism and stick with it.I love this. Not like The Rat's horrificly putrid offense had anything to do with them not making the playoffs, or the "genius" move of going to a rookie QB in the middle of the season.Coach Kevlar never runs out of scapegoats, does he?![]()
Broncos | Team fires CoyerTue, 9 Jan 2007 09:30:18 -0800The Denver Broncos announced Tuesday, Jan. 9, defensive coordinator Larry Coyer has been relieved of his duties. Some inside sources I have within the Denver Broncos have told me that DC Coyer will be fired/released tomorrow or Wednesday.
While I firmly believe that Plummer would have been able ot win the games against Seattle and SF, I can't deny the facts that the offense performed better with Cutler then it did with Plummer. And the reasons why I think Plummer would have won those games is because due to Cutler's inexperience he threw an INT-TD. This team wasn't going anywhere in the playoffs anyway, might as well get your future QB some experience. To be fair, the putrid offense was rectified by the "genius" move of going to a rookie QB.Pick one criticism and stick with it.I love this. Not like The Rat's horrificly putrid offense had anything to do with them not making the playoffs, or the "genius" move of going to a rookie QB in the middle of the season.Coach Kevlar never runs out of scapegoats, does he?![]()
The 2005 Broncos played over their heads, and the 2006 Broncos weren't going to win the Super Bowl.If we have the following assumptions ...A) The Broncos would not win the Super Bowl in 2006 (at 7-4 this was clear to most people)B) Jay Cutler is a long-term upgrade over Jake Plummer (not particularly unreasonable given what we know now)... Isn't the 2nd half of 2006 the optimal situation? Get Cutler some experience and make a run in 2007?My guess is that Shanahan's goal here is winning a Super Bowl. That's why his ego driven mentality decided to go out and get a championship-caliber QB that the geniuses like Belichick already have.I guess I'm just shocked that a team that was one game away from playing for the world championship would just sabotage itself like it seemingly did with the insertion of a rookie at the most important position on the field. Granted, Plummer was less than stellar, but the running game was spotty at best. Shannys ego driven "Just plug a running back in" mentality finaly came back to bite this team, and he fobs it off on his quarterback and his DC. Hey, if you guys are buying, I guess he'll keep sellin'.
IMO the running game was one of the worst under Shanny. But it's not like Shanny didn't try to get a RB during the offseason. People seem to forget that he made a big push to sign a FA RB last summer but was unable to do so due to their cap situation. And people also seem to forget that Denver lost their best offensive lineman (LT Matt Lepsis) as well and then their other RT was benched (George Foster) and only started again once his replacement also got injured. Plus their starting RB (Tatum Bell) couldn't stay healthy and then developed a case of the fumblitis. The offense is packed full of young talent (Javon, Marshall, Scheffler, Cutler) and are only missing a RB and a RT. I think RT will be taken care of by Pears who played LT decently enough after Lepsis got injured, and hopefully RB is answered in FA or draft. The defense on the other hand has some serious flaws, and people who look at stats only will point to their performance early in the season and claim that it wasn't their fault. But looking past the stats you will see they played some horrible offenses (and the Rams and Ravens before their offenses started rolling) and got by mainly by incredible play from Champ Bailey (he saved the defense numerous times by getting very timely picks inside their 10 yard line). With this firing it honestly wouldn't suprise me to see the Broncos switch to a 3-4 alignment.I think Wilson and DJ can play inside, with Dumervil playing OLB and Ekuban playing DE. If Brown comes back healthy he can play DE as well. Plus it's easier to get 3-4 DE's, then 4-3 DE's, and the draft these days seem jam packed full of OLB/DE tweeners suited to play OLB in a 3-4.I guess I'm just shocked that a team that was one game away from playing for the world championship would just sabotage itself like it seemingly did with the insertion of a rookie at the most important position on the field. too bad the core of the 3-4 relies on a monster sized NT, which the Broncos don't have. I can't see them going to a 3-4, just doesn't make sense.IMO the running game was one of the worst under Shanny. But it's not like Shanny didn't try to get a RB during the offseason.
