Crabtree Assessment (1 Viewer)

how did he look yesterday?from reading the thread, it sounded like there was a play overturned which could have resulted in another 20 yards or so but overall he put up a solid rookie game I would guess.
One of the first plays from scrimmage for SF, would have been for about 40 yds I believe. Crabtree made a phenomenal catch but did not keep possession of the ball as he rolled out of bounds. Was a great display of talent even though it didn't count.

He had a circus one-handed catch while falling out of bounds that was ruled incomplete. It was challenged and the call was upheld (I think he maintained control but the replay showed he couldn't quite get his second foot down before his other leg landed out of bounds...definitely not enough to overturn but also an impressive effort).Overall, I thought he looked like a talented rookie who is ahead of where I would have expected given the hold-out. He still makes some rookie plays though: had a drop that looked very catchable--looked like he took his eyes off the ball. My amateur scouting report:Pros- shows quickness and athleticism to get the ball even when he appears well-covered.- surprising amount of polish for a rookie in his 4th game.- the 49ers appear determined to feed him the ballCons- he is still a rookie and will make some rook mistakes- doesn't have blazing straight line speed- the 49ers will try to play smash-mouth football any time they have a lead (fortunately that may not be that often)
 I have to say I'm pretty impressed with him and he seems to bring intangibles to the field. That surprises me but I probably listened to too much of the diva offseason talk.

The guy is an elite talent. His hands and body control are things of beauty.

Before coming into the NFL my eyes showed a hybrid of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. He has the hands and my ball mentality of Fitz and the after the catch beastly running ability of Boldin.

We've seen the hands so far, just wait until he starts to show some of that RAC ability.

I believe he had 3 catches and most of his yards on that first drive (and that's the drive where he had the near circus catch). After watching the first 5 minutes of the game, I thought he was going to do similar things to Charles Tillgman that Fitz did last week, but the 49ers went ultra conservative when they got the lead. I mean ULTRA conservative. It looked like they were trying to run the clock out with 10 minutes left in the 4th, and he hardly got any looks in the 2nd half.

 I was about to rip your post but I can wait for the RAC. All we have seen so far is the good hands, except for the slant which would of been a first down last night. As for RAC, all I have seen is he gets was is given to him as he doesn't break tackles and/or make anybody miss him yet...I am hoping that this comes with experience. Please!

He's going to be a STUD fantasy and NFL WR for a long time. Terrific hands, precise routes, and determination.

I would assume he's adjusting to the speed/strentgh of the nfl players. He seems to be able to get open - or at least make catches even when he's covered. But I'm sure the tackling ability of NFL players is a slight bump up from the opponents he put up his great stats against in college. That being said, every great RAC receiver in the NFL made the adjustment to the NFL so theres a decent chance that he gradually turns into that person. Without the YAC to go along with the hands, his upside is simply Welker in the 49ers offense.... which would be kind of yuk.

agree. Some players just have a presence in the game, you can just see it when watching the game. It is rare that a rookie WR shows this, let alone one that went the route he did with the holdout and what not. I think he's gonna be a premier wr by beginning of next year easily. Hopefully he has a half decent qb around to throw the ball to him for years to come. I have always been a huge fan watching him play in college, but sometimes in college certain teams play in certain conferences that are not just run and gun, but utterly lack defense, so hard to see if that translates into the NFL. He is the real deal. Al Davis needs to fire himself!

his first NFL TD and another impressive stat-line but how did he look for those who saw the game:goodposting:
Same as always....showed tremendous hands and many little veteran-like nuances to gain some space before the catch. He's the real deal.

Looks like a stud out there. He missed an endzone catch that would have gave him a pretty impressive statline. He practically dived for the ball though but it just slipped through and he was pretty disappointed about it. Some catches he had some pretty impressive YAC. Made the first guy miss and then broke a tackle. He looks like Steve Smith out there basically and I think he'll get more targets now that the Niners are running a different offense. I think he'll be a great pickup because of the remaining schedule.

He looked absolutely incredible. He dropped at least one pass but overall has shown good hands. He runs good routes, gets seperation, and finally flashed some good RAC skills.

Imo he looks like a veteran out there.

Another tidbit - he supposedly has latched onto Bruce, constantly picking his brain, asking him questions, and learning as much as he can.

Not a bad idea.
