Crabtree to the Browns at No. 5? (1 Viewer)

(RotoWire) The Browns are sitting on a first-round draft pick offer in exchange for Edwards, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Analysis: You would think that the Browns would want to keep him with tight end Kellen Winslow's departure to Tampa Bay, but there are rumors circulating that the Browns have fallen in love with the idea of drafting Michael Crabtree with the fifth overall pick in the draft. If this is the case, the Browns may choose to move forward with Crabtree as their top wideout and try to get as much as they can for Edwards who led the league in dropped passes last season.

Cleveland is such a cursed orginization. I am not liking Crabtree's prospects of having to over come that much more than I like the idea of him going to the Raiders.

it would make him a top 5 pick though and those have faired better than WR drafted in the 2nd half of the top 10.

Ouch. I know it's been rough sledding since we got the team back, but Raiders bad? Guess I can't argue w/ that  Praying:

DET - Stafford

STL goes OT

KC goes OT

SEA takes Crabtree or Sanchez

CLE gets to pick between Curry or Raji.

Tough to pay a young LB top 5 $, but I doubt they trade BE and take Crabtree @ 5. The D needs the love.

Cleveland Browns passing on Michael Crabtree

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have all but crossed off Michael Crabtree as a candidate for the No. 5 overall pick, said a source.

The Texas Tech receiver brought a diva attitude on his visit to the club facility last week and did not impress coach Eric Mangini and others, the source said. In fact, Crabtree was described by some in the building as "not nice." After Crabtree left, Mangini secured last-minute workouts with borderline first-round receivers Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina, Kenny Britt of Rutgers and Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia.

Don't believe anything you read days before the draft.Perhaps the most rampant misinformation time of year outside of Belichick's weekly injury reports.

:porked: Just seen a piece where Chris Wells agent had to deny another piece of propaganda about Wells have a major foot injury.

I participated in the SP Mock #3 Draft for the Browns , made the picks / trade with a similiar scenario in mind.I think it worked out well for Cleveland.

I don't think so. I think it's a smokescreen.
Maybe, but why?Even if there's any truth to his "diva" attitude, etc. and ManKok souring - why say "we don't want him" - and bring in late 1st round projections? Wouldn't the strategic ploy to be "we are strongly considering him and other options" - so anyone interested should call about trading up to secure his services?Or, maybe Crabtree doesn't want to play in CLE enough to come in and act like a schmo.

Maybe they don't want someone trading up to Seattles pick to grab Crabtree?Maybe they want Crabtree available and then they will move Edwards?I'm not saying it's impossible that this happened, I would tend to not believe just about anything right now especially anything from "sources", attach an actual name in the Browns organization and I'll believe it.

....or maybe it is what he said it was.

The new regime doesn't strike me as a "draft a WR at #5" type.

There will probably be many quality wideouts available to the Browns atop the 2nd round if they feel compelled to fill the hole created by an Edwards trade. They could also use the 1st round pick they acquire to add a late 1st wideout.

i'm starting to think this regime doesn't care about WRs period. there is a huge WR hole right now, even before an Edwards trade.i have no idea what purpose it serves to put this info out there, but at this point, i would not be suprised to see them draft defense at 1.5, trade Braylon, and draft a WR at 1.29 or 2.5.
