Crazy to drop Fitzgerald? (1 Viewer)

So, am I crazy or is anyone else out there thinking of dropping Lary Fitzgerald in redraft leagues? I only have 7 bench spots and have 4 other starters on a bye this week. I am no doctor, but hamstring injuries tend to linger and I have to doubt that he will return to form immediately when he comes back. :wall:

Try to move him in a trade. Someone else may be able to sit him for awhile, waiting for a playoff run. You need to get some value for him.

If not, I believe it is worth taking a loss for the long run. Cutting him is an absurd thought. There has to be someone else you could get rid of.

The Cards have a week 9 bye, so there is no way Fitz plays before Week 10. There is no guarantee that he can be effective again this year.

If you are fighting for your playoff life, it makes sense to get a player you can use now. Look for a trade. I would only cut Fitz as the absolute last resort. I bet a 5-0 or 4-1 team would gamble on him in a trade, with hopes he boosts them just in time for the playoffs.

Look at the big picture...if your team is a playoff contender how silly would you feel seeing him in your opponents starting line-up week 14, 15 or 16.

Thank goodness for IR spots in my league....

Bad situation you have, but I'd also want to hold him to see how well Leinart does. Sure it may have been pure happenstance the guy throws 2 TDs in about 10 minutes in his first game, but if he turns out to be the real deal, you'll still have a great option down the road come playoff time.

Whatever you do, don't release him and let someone pick him up for nothing.

I'm in your situation (redraft fixed roster) I dropped him. I think he doesn't have much value this year even if he comes back. It is a bad pull or tear. If he's back I don't think he'll be effective. That type of injury lingers.PS no one picked him up

how long to they have to make the pickup? How tight is the roster? FWIW, I have fitz in a league with 6 bench spots and there is no way he gets shown the door unless it is via a trade.

same situation here, but even tighter roster. entire bench is rhodes, turner, and fitzgerald. i've been trying to move all of them, and i'm not getting squat.

Reports is he is out 2-5 weeks (maybe more)

The short side is 2 weeks. How can you drop him if theres a chance he could come back after 2 weeks?? Anyone remember Edge in 2004? He suffered a slight hamstring tear in week 2 against Tennessee, and played in week 3 against the Packers and went 21 for 62 and a TD and didnt miss a game the rest of the year. Finished with 1500+yds and 9tds.

Not saying Fitz has the exact same injury, but James has dealt with the same type of thing and came back fine quickly. Maybe he can give Fitz some pointers on stretches, therapy, etc to get him back quicker.

Just a thought to keep in mind.

I think that was the exception more than the norm. My gut is hes out until at least week 10, possibly longer, with the chance he isn't the same all year. I need the room. 4 fixed WR's, with byes, I can't waste the space. (Wayne, Edwards, Evans, and dropped him for Bryant Johnson)

I agree, it was the exception, but the fact that theyre saying 2-5 weeks, and not 4-6 weeks or something similar says that there is a chance that he comes back quicker. If you have no choice but to drop him I can understand that. My post was more towards the guys who are thinking about dropping him if they dont absolutely have to. If I had no choice Id at least try to swing a trade with someone who could use depth down the line. Maybe package him in a deal so Id at least get something for him. Otherwise someone will snatch him up, and if he comes back it would suck to see someone get him for nothing.

I think week 11 sounds about right, and if the injury is towards the low side, I think he can come back week 11 with no ill effects as long as he rests it until completely healed. At least I *hope*. Luckily I have more than enough WR depth, so I can just stash him and dont have to pick anyone up at this point.

FITZ LOOKING BETTER

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald sat out practice with his bad hamstring, but he was walking much better than he was Monday and Green expressed hope that Fitzgerald’s injury would only keep him out a game or two. Fitzgerald is officially listed as doubtful for Monday’s game, but he won’t play against the Bears. There remains a chance he could return for the following week’s game in Oakland.
