Credit Monitoring (1 Viewer)

Anyone ever have to pay for a year of credit monitoring? If so, what service did you use. Here's why I'm asking:

Received my W-2 yesterday from my previous employer through the mail (changed jobs first of this year). The idiots put the W-2 in a two window envelope, and my social security number is showing nice and easy in the return address window.

So every %^&*@! with a smart phone at the post office could have possibly gotten my SS# and address. So my paranoid self needs to add credit monitoring probably for the next 12 months.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can put a temporary freeze on your credit for 90 days for free.  Call up any of Transunion, Equifax, or Experian and they will do it for you and then report it to the other 2 agencies.  This will prevent any accounts being opened up under your name or with your number without significant security that involves speaking directly to you at a number you provide.  If necessary, you can then prolong this as you see fit.

Awesome. Thanks.
