Appear to be a lot of us debating the Culpepper vs. Campbell start this week. They play for similar offenses (run-first) and are going against similarly ranked defenses.
I guess the question is which opposing offense is more likely to advance the ball against their defense? The more the opposing team scores, the more our guy has to pass.
- Will a one-dimensional Packers' offense be able to throw on WASH? We saw what the Skins' DEF did to Kitna and Detroit last week. And Favre has arguably less supporting talent at the skill positions than Kitna, although his line is much better.
- How about the Chargers' O vs. the Raiders' D? I'm thinking if Ronnie Brown can run over the Raiders, than LT/Turner can as well. Also, Rivers looks to have recovered a little bit against Denver last week.
So my take - I'm not sold on either of these QB's yet, but I think C-Pepp will have to pass on a now-hungry Chargers team that piles on the points early. This could lead to yards and TDs, or sacks and INTs. I'm betting the former. The Raiders' line is much improved, and Merriman et al have not been able to generate a consistent pass rush. Plus the secondary is weak, much weaker than that of the Packers. Meanwhile, I see a close, grind-it-out kind of game from the Skins-Packers match up. I think Campbell's ceiling is 200 yds with a TD, whereas C-Pepp could get close to 300 with 2 TDs and some rush yards. So I go for the homerun with C-Pepp.
