Culpepper (2 Viewers)

Footballguy
A guy in my league just dropped him for Alex Smith. I am not asking if I should pick him up as I have already decided to get him. I gotta wait 2 and a half hourd until I know if I got him (waiver process). I just wanted to get some opinions on wheter the sharks swiming around here think he can put his trouble behind him. My current QB's are Plummer and McNair. We have a max roster limit of 2 QB's and I think C-pepp is more likely to post good fantasy stats than Plummer. Here is Culpeppers remaing schedule:

Sep 24 Tennessee 1:00pm

Oct 1 @Houston 1:00pm

Oct 8 @New England 1:00pm

Oct 15 @N.Y. Jets 4:15pm

Oct 22 Green Bay 1:00pm

Week 8 BYE

Nov 5 @Chicago 1:00pm

Nov 12 Kansas City 1:00pm

Nov 19 Minnesota 1:00pm

Nov 23 @Detroit 12:30pm

Dec 3 Jacksonville 1:00pm

Dec 10 New England 1:00pm

Dec 17 @Buffalo 1:00pm

Dec 25 N.Y. Jets 8:30pm

Dec 31 @Indianapolis 1:00pm

It looks like c-pepp has a decent schedule with the exception of a week 8 bye, week 9 @ Chicago, waaek 11 vs Minnesota, and week 13 vs Jville.

Please discuss your thoughts on Culpepper going forward.

I'd say if he cannot produce against Tennesse and Houston, then he's in for a long season. These games are a litmus test, in my eyes, to see whether or not there's reason to hold out hope. He's got a pretty tough schedule down the stretch.

:goodposting: This is the deciding game for me. if he cant produce vs tenn then...

I am shocked he dropped him.

C.pep will bounce back and get better as the season rolls on. This weekends contest will show a marked improvment going forward.

These next 2 games are my test for him, as a Dol-fan and an owner. If he does not step up the next 2 games, I will bench him. As a fan, I do not think I will be joining the "we want Harrington" crowd though.... well maybe

I am also both an owner of C.Pep and a huge Dolphins homer. He will get better and he is an elite talent. Joey Harrinston is not even close in skill. I was disgusted at our fans chants of Joey last week. Typical drunk fat and stupid Dolphin fans fodder. We are so bush league down here and our fans have no clue for the most part.

CPep was terrible last year before he got hurt.

He's been terrible so far this year.

I've been arguing with the "Moss made Culpepper" crowd up to now, but I'm starting to think I may have to eat crow on this one.

I think Moss and Culpepper complimented each other. Moss has been very average since leaving Minnesota. Culpepper looks average without Moss. But I agree... if he can't get it done the next 2 weeks against the Titan and the Texans... he may never get it done.

And tell me "Moss made C.Pep" crowd, what has Mr. Moss done since he left Minny? My $$$ is on Culpepper being an elite FF QB before Moss ever returns to his elite glory( which I think he never will). Yes C.Pep had a bad year last season, but he is coming off a major injury. I mean it is flat out astonishing he is playing right now. This time next year he will be running and gunning like he did in 2004. I have very little doubt he will return to that form quickly.

Be patient dynasty C.Pep owners as well as Fins fans. Relax.

Am I missing something? C-pep was awful week 1, but he wasn't that bad in week 2.

23/32 71.9% 250 yards 1 TD 1 INT

Sure he looked bad and was sacked 7 times but his numbers didn't end up awful, QB rating around 90. I'm not saying he looked good because he didn't. But at the end of the day he had okay numbers against a D that may be better than most realize. It's way early to write C-pep off. Not only is he coming back from a major injury but he's on a new team with a new system, give him some time.

One 93yd TD drive down by 16-0 that started with less than 5min left in the game. If it hadn't been for that trash time, his numbers would have been very ugly.Granted, trash time counts in every league. But...we all know that wasn't the same D he'd been seeing all game, and you simply cannot rely on that each week.If he can't get it going vs the Titans, I'm dropping him to the wire.

My first question is bounce back to what level? Bounce back to being the #1 fantasy QB? No. Bounce back to being a fantasy starter in a 12-team league? Maybe, maybe not. Bounce back to being part of a fantasy QBBC? Yes. Bounce back to being a fantasy QB2, bye week fill-in or injury fill-in? Yes.

Guys, while you might say this is the test, the truth is that C-Pep is still not 100%. In a redraft league you will have less patience, but he didn't lose his ability to be a good QB, but he is not nearly a fast as he was right now and still has a limp which could impact his throws (stable base).Drop Plummer but don't ride everything on the next game as the receivers and he are still learning each other and have bee out of sync. Also, the OL will be better by the end of the year and that makes a huge difference

Culpepper was not errible aftre the first two games last year. He was OK after two HORRIBLE games. He has been poor so far but the OL has stunk so far

The most disturbing part of Pepper last week was that he threw flat footed on his last couple of throws, obviously not wanting to transfer his body weight on his wounded knee joint.

I think there is some risk here that Pepper came back to soon.

The reason C-Pep used to be so valuable was that he would add 400-600 yards RUNNING the ball with at times a lot of rushing TDs (one year he had 10 rushing TDs). Given his injury, I suspect that he will get a fraction of that production on the ground . . . he's had 15 rushing yards and 0 TD in two games so far.In his last 8 full games between 2005 and 2006, he's averaged 256 yards passing, but his TD to INT ratio has been terrible (7 TD to 15 INT) and that doesn't account for his 7 fumbles (3 lost). By my math, that's 18 turnovers in 8 games to only 7 TD.All the leagues I'm in deduct 2 points for turnovers, so I would not be inclined to play Culpepper even if I have him. Until he can flip flop the TD to turnover ratio, in some redraft leagues he could be a liability more than an asset.

His biggest problem is that OL. They're on their 4th RG. If they can get their act together everybody wins.

Bounce back to where? Top 5? NEVER. Top 10? Maybe 9 or 10. That's it.
9 or 10 QB is perfectly OK with me!Just to update you all and thanks for your responses. I am the proud new owner of Daunte Culpepper. Jake Plummer is no longer on my 2 QB max roster. I am starting Culpepper this weekend and hoping for the best. Continue discussing if you wish.

He's not doing much against Tennessee so far in today's game.

Would it really be foolish to let him go after this game? I just don't know what's going on with him. Is he really that bad? Is it just Miami as a team?

His O-line is hurting. But I'm probably dropping him this week, I don't have the bench space to wait around for him.

I've lost all faith after his performance so far today. If you can't score on Ten you don't deserve to start...Harrington can't be worse than this.

No, he doesnt look good at all. He looks awful. His throws are short. He cant move under pressure. He looks like crap. He makes me wish for Marino's mobility if that tells you anything.

Salisbury said that his injury is much worse than he was ever letting on, and that it may, in fact, be something that he never fully recovers from

Of course, Salisbury is not a doctor and sometimes talks out of his butt, so you know...

Daunte just got a rushing TD. I didn't see the game though... did he look good down there?
No, he didn't look good. Not bad enough to be benched, but he is not near the same QB as he was with Moss.

Fixed. Culpepper only had one decent season in his career without Linehan. Culpepper had both good and bad seasons coupled with Moss.
