Footballguy
Board legend Rabidfire Weasel (

rabidfireweasel) is having an art opening this Thursday night.

The show details:

Peter Precourt's "Katrina Chronicles"

It is east, outside the loop, inside the beltway.
San Jacinto College
North Gallery
5800 Uvalde Rd, Houston, TX
(281) 458-4050
Thursday, Feb 5th, 6-8 (for the opening, show will run for a while after that)

The Katrina Chronicles, a graphical story of Precourt's struggles with losing almost everything he owned from his coastal Mississippi home during Hurricane Katrina, an Atlantic hurricane that devastated the Southeastern U.S. in 2005. In a form that embraces the stepchild nature of Mississippi and the leveling power of Katrina, the Chronicles are told in a visual form that hovers somewhere between a graphic novel, a journal entry, a painting, a memoir and a flippant conversation.
Peter will be attending that evening with his daughter, traveling from Maine where his is currently an Art professor.

Please join us for the opening and let's help make it successful. He's one of our own and certainly deserving of any support we can throw his was.

After the opening, I'll be hosting an afterparty for those of us attending the opening. I think at this point, Bonfire Wings looks like the best food and alcohol nearby. I'm not real familiar with the area, so if better suggestions come forth, I'm happy to reconsider. First round of drink and wings are on me. See you there?

Don't know about dressiness. I will put on long pants and a clean shirt. Probably.

But no one should ever look to me for attire advice. That's the main reason i live in Austin: no dress code.

Maybe Peter will drop in and answer the question for those of you still compliant.

Arrive when you like and dress casual. If you like the work, and choose to read it (neither if which is expected ) then it would probably take 25-45 minutes if you spend between 30-60 seconds per page.

I am in a bit of crisis mode, as ups sent a damaged package missing 6 large drawings and cos's painting 4 days late. Show will look a little different than anticipated, but is coming together. Clearly though, I am losing some sleep .

I predict hugs

eta: GL and congrats, rfw!

as always, a big fan.

Major is both a Houston and an art guy.

ETA: Good luck. This sounds awesome.
Nice. Im not familiar with the gallery as I dont venture outside the loop very often but will try to make it. Best of luck rabbit! Sounds like a really interesting exhibit.

Its at the college. And its inside the Beltway.

The address is 5800 uvalde ( cross street is Wallisville)

If you have to go through town from W to E

I would take 10e to 90 to Wallisville. Go through the uvalde intersection, take a left and the art building is there.

Traffic will likely be ugly, especially near the 10/610 loop, so taking 90 will greatly reduce commute time.

:lmao: at the Beltway...well played
Suffering for art is a well established paradigm.

Great to have the support.

I did almost walk up to a non-FBG and ask if he was ignoramus. That may not have gone over so well.

Great ####### show. Truly. I cannot express how impressed i was not only with the art, but with the combined narrative and the overall impact of the whole.

Not to mention the awesomeness of seeing unialias, Frosty, sweet j and uhem as key elements of the work.

Bra freaking vo

It was really an amazing show. Both evocative and funny, the combination of art and narrative (or narrative as art), really pulls you in. I was left wanting to see more, read more, know more. RFW is a true talent, and as his host said last night, Houston is lucky to be able to exhibit his work over the next month.

And it was also cool hanging with cos, ignoramus and friends. Good people.
