Why is everyone so scared of the word 'date'?
Because a lot of dudes assume "date" implies "sexual intercourse".

It's because of guys with that mindset that fathers have to teach their girls that a date does NOT mean that, so their girls are prepared to defend themselves when they accidentally find themselves on a with date some ####### who thinks that.
date implies romantic overtones. Intercourse may or may not be on table (or on the sofa, or under the piano or...)
I think you are ignoring the "or" in definition 2 below. It is not always romantic. It can also just be social.

Yeah, if you're asexual.

Yeah, if you're asexual.
I can see how those who are borderline pedophiles are struggling to resolve the situation, and as such find it creepy. Can't say I can relate, but I feel for you and your burden. Good luck with that.

Not creepy at all. The video is cheesy and I don't like the makeup on a little girl but the concept is terrific.

I took my 7 year old to a daddy-daughter dance earlier this year and she had a blast.

Date definitely has a certain connotation. I bet nobody here says they have a date planned with their sister or with their male coworker.

Hey, I'm not the one who thinks it's OK to go on "dates" with little girls, Polanski.

Unnecessary and creepy use of the word. I wouldn't use the word 'date' and since I'm not into the whole brevity thing I just say 'I'm taking my daughter out'.

"Hey sweetie, why don't we paint our daughter up like a street walker and you can put on a nice suit and take her out to dinner. You know, just like we did when we first met and we made the secks in your apartment after."

I assume it's mostly people who don't have kids who find this creepy. As a parent, this seems completely normal, if a little cheesy thanks to the music.

My wife and I watched and disagree on it. She thinks it's cute and she actually had tears in her eyes. (disclosure: She cried hearing a radio commercial in the car a few weeks ago.) I don't think it is creepy, I think it is bizarre and that's because of the way the man is acting before he "picks up" his "date".

"Oh and Kevin is on his way over. His plumbing is fuxored and he needs to honk out a dirt snake while you get ready."

My daughter and I used to have dates every month or so when she was little. What's so creepy about it?
Have 2 little girls and do the same. You'd have to be a complete moron to think that's creepy.
ok sicko
Oh yeah....pretty sick to take my 5 yr old to dinner and Toys R Us to pick a toy.
But why call it a "date"?
Not sure how it started. I think my wife hyped it up with my daughter as a date and now that's what she likes to call it. Never even imagined there was anything weird about it.

So for some of you spending time with your daughter(s) is a "special occasion"? It requires a special name and changing clothes?

What do you call it when you spend time with your sons if you have any? What about when your wife spends time with your kids? "Mommy-Daughter Date"? "Mommy-Son Date"?

A few years ago one of my female 8th grade students won an award from a local service group. She invited me to go to the awards breakfast with her. We met at the venue, sat next to each other, and ate breakfast.

If this girl was your daughter you'd be totally could with me calling it a "date", right?

We don't call it a date. Its Daddy-Ava time but I don't think it's weird for people that do call it that. The video was a bit creepy BUT, the kid enjoyed it and that is why they did it in the first place.

 having a breakfast date with a 13 yo girl is a little creepy

But, when you have lunch with your 3 yo daughter, and call it a date, not creepy. (I agree with others that taping it and posting to youtube is a bit creepy - but maybe it was just posted to share with other family members before it went viral).

So what is the age limit? Is there some sort of chart that shows what relationships are OK? Daughter, step-daughter, niece, cousin, etc?

i think this is accurate

a "date night" is not creepy

the video kind of is

It's the whole combo

calling it a date + acting nervous+ getting all dressed up + the makeup + the cheesy video + the "romantic" setting with the flowers +the music

a few of these things we could dismiss, but it's the whole combination that pushes it towards creepy. Too many romantic overtones...

Look it's not complicated. You go on dates with chicks you want to pork.

You go out to dinner with your daughter. I know its just semantics but the date connotation just skeeves me out.

I find it creepy that anybody sees a sexual connotation in a daddy-daughter date involving a toddler.
Did you watch the video?
Yep. I saw a dad making his 3 year old daughter feel special. Some of you guys apparently saw something sexual. I think that's kind of messed up.
The only reason a man puts forth an effort to get dressed up and go through all the pomp of a date is to get laid.

There's not really a need to insult the people who go on dates with their daughters nor the people who found this a tad creepy.

There's room for both schools of thought without either side having to be a pervert or pedophile.

I have a 5 year old daughter and I'm totally fine having impromtu tea parties with her, reading girly books with her, or even going along with the joke when she says she wants to marry me when she gets older.

But I'm not doing single-daddy-on-the-prowl cosplay, sorry.

I did not say you should!

I simply commented that both sides of this argument have some people implying the people on the other side are disgusting pervs

I think we can do without that from either side.
