Cutler has contacted Burress (1 Viewer)

Just heard this on AM 670 in Chicago.

Zach Zaidman, a reporter for 670 The Score in Chicago spoke with Plaxico Burress last night in Detroit as Burress was in attendance to support Michigan State. He asked Burress if the Bears have been in contact with him since he was cut by the Giants. Burress said he had gotten calls from Jay Cutler as well as from Donovan McNabb and Ben Roethlisberger. He went on to say something to the effect of "tell those people in Chicago I love Garrett's Popcorn and Giordano's Pizza."

No word on whether or not the Jerry Angelo or anyone from the Bears front office had contacted him directly though. Not much here yet I guess, other than we now know some of Burress' food preferences.

I think in all three cases, there are decision-makers at the helm that will want a crystal clear understanding of Burress' legal situation and potential NFL suspensions before even thinking about signing him.

I would think that you'd want to leverage the absence of a crystal clear understanding. Wouldn't you want to roll the dice with a conservative offer while the situation is murky? Otherwise...you're going to be competing at market rates.

Burress/Hester/Olsen or Burress/Jackson/LJ would be pefect for either team. Very scary for opposing cords. Makes too much sense though. I'm thinking Angelo stays away after what he said after the Tank Willaims situation. Then again, he let Briggs slide, so who knows...

What other teams need a big target?

I agree. I think the Tank Johnson thing definitely left a bad taste in Angelo's mouth about these types of situations, so I'm guessing it's doubtful. But that's the same thing I thought about Cutler and the Bears given their history of not making big splashes, so who knows. And I can think of at least a few other teams that need big targets: Titans, Cowboys (unless they're sold on Roy Williams as the #1), and of course, the Giants. :lmao:

First let me preface this by saying that I am not a fan of guns in general...but I have no idea why Plax who shot himself, would potentially be facing jail time when VP Cheney shot his friend and that was that...how does that work??

Aside from my mini-rant, I can't see why Plax would get the book thrown at him (regardless of what the Mayor wants, there must have been other precedents set for something like this in the past). Now whether Goodell decides to punish him is a whole other story, but I just can't see why some clown who shoots himself would be subject to jail time.

I tend to agree. I think some of these guys are idiots and bringing an illegal gun to a night club and shooting yourself isn't the smartest thing although it seems to pale in comparison with guys beating their wives/girlfriends and some of the other things that seem to happen on an all too frequent basis that are just accepted. Just my opinion.

I dont know, it may be because he was in possession of illegally owned firearms without a license (which is a felony offense in NY), and shot it into public.

Honestly, it was tongue-in-cheek...I realize one was legal versus the other being illegal (Burress), I just find it humurous that one guys shot himself and he is in trouble, versus another who shot someone else and that was just an "oops!". I still think that NFLers have done worse and although I would not be surprised if he had to serve time, I think it would be unfair when looking at what others in his field have done (I could get philisophical about how they ALL get away with murder (some literally)).
