D Cook or D Henry - keeper league question (1 Viewer)

So I'm 6-0 in my PPR 10 team keep 3 league.  I have Julio, D Johnson, D Cook and I just dropped Henry for McKinnon this week because I had to have some depth at RB.  Would you drop Cook for Henry if possible, given keeper considerations?

Are there any penalties for keeping a player (lose a specific round, salary cap, etc) and what are the restrictions (keep forever, 3-yrs, etc)?  Those factor into the equation for sure.  Both players have significant risks at this point.  Cook has a major injury to come back from while Henry needs the coaching staff to finally realize he is better than the current version of Murray.

At this point I would probably lean Henry for a couple of reasons.  First, he has value this year as well as future stud keeper value.  Cook only has future value.  The other reason is he doesn't have a major knee injury to recover from to get back to his best.  It is likely that Murray moves on and that is currently the only block on him.

Even coming off ACL surgery I'd rather have Cook.  He looked amazing so far this year, and should easily retake the starting/lead role next season. ACL's are getting easier (that's probably not the right word) to return from.  Higher rate of success upon return, rather.   Henry is at best stuck in a timeshare with Murray, and I don't think henry will take over as lead back unless Murray gets hurt.  Titans realize they have two good backs that aren't expensive, and Murray has earned the right to at least half the load at worst.  Murray still has two years on his contract, but the Titans do have an early option out after this season, but I don't see them cutting bait because Murray is only $6MM/yr and he's plenty proven his worth there.

We need Henry to get the volume Cook does to prefer Henry over Cook.  I don't see that happening in the next year or two, so take Cook.

This may be true but every situation is different and this is a huge obstacle even if the rate of success is improving.  To me this is far bigger of an unknown risk than what you have with Henry's situation.  Then adding the bonus that Henry helps this year too that swings it for me.

Agreed, and I didn't mean to say "oh just an ACL no big deal he'll be exactly like he was".  But the rate of successful return is higher than it's ever been.  Not a 100% guarantee, but a good chance.  My whole point is that I don't see the Titans walking away from Murray after this year and completely handing the keys to Henry unless Murray gets injured.  Murray has more than proved himself to them.  Is Henry a better RB?  Yes, I think so.  Should Henry be the lead back?  Yes, I think so.  But I think at best it'll be a 60/40 split for Henry.

If Henry could have Cook's volume, I'd take Henry first.  But 60% Henry vs. (assumed) 100% Cook - give me Cook.  Maybe I'm out on a limb with my Henry line of thinking.  I just think the Titans have showed enough by now for us to realize Murray isn't going anywhere, and Henry isn't getting unleashed unless Murray goes down. They see Henry every day in practice, they know better than us what he is and what he can do.  And they still give Murray his share.

I think Tennessee is actually being smart for the sake of their franchise.  Murray is still a quality back and by sharing they are prolonging both RB's usefulness for sure.  I do believe that Henry is better at this point and that will start to shift the balance - in addition to Murray looking gimpy the last couple of games.  I see the shift to 60-40 happening sooner rather than later.........which really helps this year over Cook.  This is my main reason for leaning Henry over Cook.  He said he needed RB help this year so getting this year and the possible shift in time share next year (or the whole thing if things break right - not my belief but could happen) pushes Henry over Cook for me.

We are in violent agreement on the underlined, lol.

As for the bolded above - I must need more coffee.  This whole time I've missed the fact that OP is 6-0 currently and isn't just playing for next year.  Reading too many threads at once I guess. Thanks for keeping me straight Gally. The fact that OP already has David Johnson as well, yeah you can't hold on to two IR'd backs.  I'd rather Henry over Cook now, please OP disregard my previous posts.

Any possibility that you could dangle Cook out in a trade for keeper potential?  I've got a league where we keep 5, and I am playing for next year so I sold a couple pieces for Cook (3rd round cost).  Might be able to get something for him if he'd be a decent cost next year.

Thanks guys, I've been close to the top scoring team through the 1st 4 weeks and then got lucky with matchups the last 2 to remain undefeated.  It's nice to have the wiggle room to wait and hope on Johnson to come back.  Right now my healthy backs are Gurley, Mckinnon and Kamara and we do have a flex.  I really hate to lose Cook, but I guess it's at least slightly possible no one else bothers picking him up right now and I can grab him back up as I see when Johnson comes back, which would allow me to drop McKinnon or Henry if his volume doesn't pick up.
