"“You just turn on the film of the last game. We basically dominated the physical play. They understand that."-- Colts DE Dwight Freeney, responding to Steelers LB Joey Porter's comments that the Colts didn't play smash-mouth football in the first meeting this season. :boxing:  This one looks to be good

That's the funny part of Porter's comment. The Colts did smash them in the mouth the last time they played :lmao: I don't think Porter accepts the fact that the Colts can play physical and finesse.

I don't think many people think the Colts are a more physical team than the Steelers. The Colts appear to be more physical than in years past, but they're certainly not a smashmouth football team.

I never said they were more physical than Pittsburgh, but I did insinuate they can play more physical than Pittsburgh can play finesse. By the way, did I say they smacked Pitt in the mouth the first game? :D

The Colts defense definitely pushed around the Steelers offense, there is no doubt about that. But I think Porter was referring to the Steelers defense vs the Colts offense. Basically what he was saying is that the Colts offense is more of a finesse game, where Manning tries to confuse a defense with all of his girations and will go to the quick snap if a defense tries to make substitutions.Edge's yards (according to Porter) were mainly a result of the Steelers not being able to get into their standard run defense. Instead they had to get into nickle and dime packages and stay there. That is why he said Edge's 100 yards were "cheap" because the Colts don't allow the Steelers to put 8 men in a box and shut down the run.Of course all of this is silly. All offenses try to confuse the defense and exploit matchups and the Colts are possibly the best at it. The Colts are going to do what works best and if you can't stop them then that is your problem. 100+ yards against the Steelers defense is an accomplishment and is not cheap in any way.Porter knows this and should have just kept his mouth shut. Not because it will be bulletin board material for the Colts, they won't need it to be fired up, but because it was a stupid thing to say.

This makes Porter look like one of the least intelligent beings in history.

Unless it throws the Colts off their game plan and they play with their egos instead of their heads. ;)

I think it was said more in frustration because there was so much talk about the Colts being more physical than the Steelers were in the first game. And as I said, the Steelers offense was definitely pushed around physically. On the other hand I do not think the Steelers defense was physically pushed around. It was more of a case where the Colts offense was able to keep the Steelers from getting the proper defense in place.

I think the Colts play will shut Porter up. The Colts did play smash-mouth football on defense this year! Were you watching? Ask opposing teams about Freeney, Mathis, Doss and Sanders, I think they'll agree!

I was watching a lot better than you were reading.Twice I said that the Steelers offense was being pushed around by the Colts defense. Translation: the Colts defense was more physical than the Steelers offense.

But I don't believe the Steelers defense was being manhandled by the Colts offense. The Colts offense just outplayed the Steelers defense, no question about that, but it wasn't because they were beat up physically.

I was responding to Chase and not you. I don't see where you mentioned "smashmouth football". ;)

Porter wasn't talking about the Colts defense, he was talking about the Colts offense.

IMO i dont care. Porter's team lost. What is so hard about taking a loss. Deal with it. There has been an excuse after every Indy win this season. They won,who is more physical dont mean Jack. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME...BTW the trick plays by Pitts are real smashmouth :lmao: All i can say is its making Pitt. Look bad. They have been trashed in the media all week because of Porters mouth..I like both teams BTW but the Steelers are toeing the line of being classless. Why piss off a sleeping giant

Oh, and their smash-mouth football style got them all of 86 yards rushing in the first game! Oh yeah, and 7 points!Porter is an idiot and knows he can't match with with the Colts. That is the real problem!

I'd say Roethlisberger missing a month before the game and their left tackle being replaced by a rookie had a pretty big impact on the offense. Well, that and the cheesy way the Colts pump the crowd noise through speakers. The Colts defense played great, but they're going to face a much different offense this time around. I had actually forgotten that Farrior was returning early from a sprained ankle that day, but he probably returned too early. On both sides of the ball, the Steelers are better now than they were then.

Maybe it'll be enough, maybe it won't.

Keep dreaming about the noise being artificial! It's in your head like it is the players! The NFL didn't investigate it so it is a non-issue.And, it will be louder tomorrow! I will guarantee you that!

I don't remember ANYBODY ever accusing Porter of being smart. He's a lippy thug. But he makes a hell of a pass rusher. The funny thing about his comment is that to beat the Colts, you have to out-finesse them w/ your defense. You have to shift around before the snap, hoping to get Manning to pick the wrong audible. The Steelers, Pats and Bolts have all done this w/ success. I just hope they remember this today.

This was my thought after reading what Porter said. The opposing Ds have to use "trickery" to confuse Manning. LOL It's rare you see a team disrupt the Colts by just rushing their down linemen and not blitzing.

Fighting fire w/ fire? Showing that you can 'outstrength' the opponents' strength is true smashmouth in any sense. Can you outbox the boxer AND outslug the slugger? Outtrick the tricky Colts this week, then you can outslug the Broncos' running game next week. That'll leave nothing to say. Shut up AND PUT UP Porter.
