D Rhodes and M Lynch (1 Viewer)

He does no more to take away from Lynchs' value than Fred Jackson.

1. Lynch

2a. FJax

2b. Rhodes

I'd worry more about Fred Jackson's value. Read somewhere that Rhodes was promised a chance to start the opener, and he has an incentive-laden contract.

He won't impact Lynch's value nearly as much as Lynch's stupidity will impact Lynch's value.

I see Rhodes more as a hit on Jackson than Lynch, but really see it mostly as depth. A lot can happen in 3 games.

Now if the Bill do something unlikely and draft a RB on Saturday, then I might be a little worried for Lynch.

Rhodes is going to take away short yardage and goal line carries away if Lynch continues to dance behind the line instead of making a single cut and hitting the hole hard.

I'm a fan of the effort and preparation Dominic Rhodes brings to a team. He turned in a valuable workman-like performance for the Colts last year, and he's a solid backup. However, I don't think Fred Jackson will have any trouble staying ahead of Rhodes on the depth chart. There's a reason the Colts let Rhodes go, despite having poor RB depth.

I do think Rhodes will open the season starting. Won't impact Lynch's value, just Jackson's.
I disagree. If Rhodes performs well in the 1st 3 games we could see a more balanced RBBC in Buffalo.
Fred Jackson has already played well in his time at the RB spot. Given what we know of Rhodes I don't really see anything that he could do to take a bigger piece of the pie than Jackson already was.

I think this is the right answer - when Lynch is suspended, Jackson and Rhodes combine to form the backfield in a RBBC. When Lynch is back, Jackson and Rhodes combine to do situational work (assuming that Lynch doesn't hit another pedestrian or get caught with an illegal weapon (again) between now and week 4 regular season - 50/50 on him avoiding further trouble during 2009, IMO. He's showing a Vick-like tendency to hang with his pre-pro friends/pre-pro sorts of peeps, and in this case that is a bad thing, evidently).

GoodBye, Xavier Omon...we hardly knew ye...

Twofold purpose to this signing, IMO:

1. You don't go out and sign Terrell Owens for a one-year deal if you don't think the Team you can put on the field can get past the 16-Game Regular Season, and frankly, if I were the Bills, I'd think so too. They certainly have the potential to finish 2nd to the Patriots in the AEast, and with the way the AFC is shaping up this year, they ought to feel like the competition for one of the two Wild Card berths is relatively slim. The way I see it, if the Bills wind up 2nd in the AEast, they're competing with Tennessee, Baltimore and Houston for one of two spots. MAYBE the Jags have something to say about that..

2. Marshawn Lynch has now become a 'Red Flag', and I think Fred Jackson could step in and that offense wouldn't lose a beat, if Marshawn's out and they lose Fred too...well, they're completely putting to waste the ONE GUARANTEED YEAR they have Terrell Owens for. Not only can Rhodes play some HB, but a Lynch/FrJax/Rhodes Threesome is a nice replica of Earth/Wind/Fire, and a Rhodes/FrJax Duo takes care of business. On top of that, Rhodes has been a part of several runs at a SuperBowl, and can certainly lend some intangibles and locker room leadership - come to think of it, he might be the most Playoff Seasoned Veteran on that entire Team, and with his workmanlike put up or shut up approach to the Game, might just be a perfect counterbalance to the potential negatives T.O. 'just might' let blossom when he gets up on the wrong side of the bed one day. Not that it's going to, you just have to have a contingency plan in place in case it does.

All opinion of course, but it's what makes sense to me...

I've been looking into it and F Jackson is unhappy with his contract and skipping voluntary workouts. Signing Rhodes is probably insurance for the Bills and leverage for contract negotiations too.

I honestly think this is an obvious insurance policy for either Jackson not signing his tender (highly unlikely) or skipping town next year. I think it obviously hurts lynch supremely if he continues to be a knucklehead.

Only because Lynch is suspended. Fred Jackson will maintain is role, no matter who is starting. When Lynch returns, Rhodes will be Lynch's backup, that's it.
