Dallas Cowboys vs Minnesota Vikings - Pregame Thread (1 Viewer)

1:00 ET on Fox at Minnesota.

This is the matchup I hoped for as I expect GB will advance to the NFC title game too.

Vikings exercise some demons (Drew Pearson push-off/Herschel Walker trade), and win at home 27-20.

MN is 8-0 at home and the Viking offense is clicking again. An extra week of rest for Winfield and Pat Williams as well as the

mental break. After what JPeppers did to McKinnie they'll be more prepared for Ware.

The Cowboys are playing well but the Vikings will give them all they can handle. Witten will have a great matchup with EJ Henderson on IR. If the Vikings win the turnover battle I don't see them losing as the Metrodome will be rocking.

This will be a great game and the toughest for Dallas in the NFC IMO.

Be careful what you hope for.Just sayin...........

Vikings will have to run the ball. If Favre is running for his life in long yardage passing situations then MIN is in trouble.

Dallas wins.

Dallas can and will win this game!

They have a defense that's on fire right now and defenses win championships. The line is getting plenty of pressure and the secondary is playing very well because of it. They've only given up 14 points in 3 games. They shut down the high flying Eagles twice! Where's the respect?

The offense is clicking. Romo has been very good and the running game continues to rack up the yds. Our receivers are above average and Witten will have a great game against Minn.

I think it'll be their toughest test. However, they're ready!

Prediction: Dallas 28 - 24

For anyone to have watched Dallas' defensive front over the last month and a half and not consider them a favorite against any NFC foe, is lunacy. I'm a life-long Viking fan and the only way they can win this game is to defuse that pass rush with a strong running game and to win the turnover battle. Tony Romo is still their weak link, so they'll have to rattle him by putting him on his can early and often.

But by any measure I consider Dallas a strong favorite. 7+ points at the minimum.

So you don't think they need to prepared for anyone else except Ware??

Really when is the last time Dallas gave up over 21 points. It was the G-MEN week 13 week and they are the only team to do it vs them (2times) All the other 15 games no team has went over 21 points vs Dallas. Maybe Minny can do it but I think as was stated earlier in this thread Minny will need to run the ball cause if Favre gets into that gunslinger thing, well that will play right into the Cowboys hands.

If Romo is the weak link there is no weak link period. Incredible how this guy gets no respect, incredible. The real weak link is the field goal game. If it is a close game and the kickers are deciding the game that is the Cowboys weak link. In the playoffs where every point counts that is a big weak link. Just please stop bashing Romo it is almost stupid to say something like that. The guy is playing lights out. No other QB is playing better as we speak period and yes that countS DECEMBER AND JANUARY IMAGINE THAT.

The Vikings don't have the secondary to contain Dallas's passing game and Dallas's defense can handle anything the Viking's offense can throw at them except for maybe a concerted effort to give the ball to ADP. Unfortunately for the Vikings, Dallas will get up on them early and the Vikings are going to go into a passing mode which is going to get Favre killed. I predict at least one strip sack on Favre this game and a pick to Mike Jenkins.

The Vikings have a major advantage at kicking field goals but the every other phase of the special teams is owned by Dallas. Percy Harvin is one heck of a punt returner but Dallas has proved with their 3 games against DeSean Jackson that their Punt team can handle dangerous returners.

Another Holmgren desciple bites the dust this week.

Dallas will win this game.

Oops, Harvin hasn't returned a punt all year...analysis flawed.

I also want to add that the Viking run defense has trouble against agile running backs like Felix. Think Ray Rice. Felix is Ray Rice on Steroids.

You sir are correct. In that case it is even more to our advantage since the only thing better in our special teams than our punter is our kick off coverage. Harvin will have a fun time taking a knee in the enzone and handing the ball to the ref.

They did a good job of holding Desean back last night that's for sure, in ST and as a receiver.

Well played sir. I guess there was really no other response you could have.

Well I could have mentioned that if you believe that the kicking game is the only chance the Vikings have to squeak out a win against a hot Cowboy team then you're grossly over-exaggerating the last two wins against an unbalanced Eagle team that has lost on the road to guys like Oakland this year.Cowboys coverage should be pretty scary, but I wonder if Adrian Peterson won't have something to say about that pass rush. I actually think the Vikes hold Felix, Marion and Tashard in check pretty well, but I do expect Austin to have a good game. I think it'll be a high scoring game, in spite of the fact that Texas blanked two teams in a row recently. It's going to be much louder in the dome so it won't be as simple for Romo to make stuff happen as he's had at home lately.

You are right that it will be loud but many of the media have said that they have never been to a louder game than it was when we played in New Orleans and Romo managed it very well. The Vikings have a chance but they are going to have to get on top early and I just don't think that they can. Either way it is going to be one fun game.

The player that I am most worried about is Witten. The Vikings can't stop TE's at all.

Yeah he could definitely open things up, but Austin has been the one making great plays all year, taking up Witten's role. If they both get on the same page it'll be lights out for the Vikes though. Coverage and stopping Romo will have to be a major concern, given Winfield's slipping play since Cinci and his reduced role with his injured foot. People are right to paint the Vikes as the underdog with recent history. I don't mind the underdog, I just hope home field advantage helps out like it has all season.

Never said it was the only chance for the Vikes I have no idea what will happen but I think Dallas has as good of a chance as anyone. I said that it was the weak link for the Cowboys that is all. Yeah the Vikes will slow down the running game. Not only did the Boys blank two teams in a row they also held the high powered Saints to 3 points through 3 quarters and 17 for the game. I doubt it will be high scoring sorry. Believe me when I say it will not be any louder then it was in the Super dome with the 13-0 Saints. Been there done that.

Vikings fans will pick the Vikings and Cowboy fans will pick the Cowboys, no shock there. So, I'm not going to rock your world and say Dallas will win the game but rather give you keys to success for each team.

Vikings:

They need to run the ball. You saw what NOT running the ball did for Philadelphia, it allowed the Cowboy pass rush to pin their ears back and rush the QB. Adrian Peterson needs to rush for 90 yards or better and a score. I can't see Minnesota winning if they're not successful running the ball. On defense, Minnesota needs to pressure Romo without blitzing all the time. The key to beating the Cowboys is getting to Romo and force him to make some bad decisions. The one game all season that Dallas got outplayed was in Green Bay. Green Bay consistently put pressure on Romo and the secondary was on the Cowboy receivers. That's how you beat Dallas.

Cowboys: They need to score early and neutralize an amped up crowd. They need to neutralize the run, meaning hold Peterson to under 4.0 yards a carry and get pressure on Farve. Dallas committed way too many penalties in those 2 games against Philadelphia. I don't think Dallas will run the ball effectively against Minnesota so I would like to see Dallas throw some quick passes (so the Minny pass rush can't get to Romo) to guys like Witten, Crayton and Austin. The WR screen that Dallas has been using, screen plays to Felix or Tashard can be effective against an aggressive pass rushing team like Minnesota.

Obviously turnovers and winning that battle will be huge, especially for Dallas who's on the road. Dallas is a good road team and have been moving the ball well as of late on the 1st drive of each game.

It should be a good game. I think the question I have is what Minnesota team will we see? The team that lost to the Cardinals, Bears, and Panthers down the stretch or the team that destroyed the Giants just last week. One could say all of those losses were on the road and this game is at home. Another could also say the Giants layed down for Minnesota so I don't care how many points Minnesota won by against them, they're the same team that lost to the Cardinals, Bears and Panthers at the end of the season.

I don't know, when the Vikings lost their best defensive player (imo), at that moment I thought they were done in terms of going the distance. They then didn't play very well against the teams I mentioned above but rallied for a big win versus the Giants. We'll see which Minnesota team shows up, I honestly don't know how good they are.

I expect record ratings for a divisional round game. That is the only prediction I"ll make for this game.

Exactly

Should be a great game. Homefield advantage may be the only edge in this game.

I think it boils down to pass protection. The Vikings' pass rush has been awful for several weeks now. They got lit up by Matt Moore and Jay Cutler because both guys had all day to sit in the pocket. Neither of those teams have the weapons in the passing game Dallas has either. If Romo gets that kind of time, he's going to light the Vikings up.

Conversely, if the Cowboys can't pressure Favre he'll do the same to them. I like Dallas' chances to put pressure on Favre before its defense has risen to the occasion in the stretch run whereas Minnesota's is faltering. I can see the Cowboys winning this game for both of those reasons.

But what Dallas doesn't have is Adrian Peterson. The Vikings need to lean on him and limit the situations when Favre is in obvious passing downs, thus presenting Dallas' strong pass rush with a chance to get after him. If Peterson can get 20-25 touches, that could swing the game in Minnesota's favor.

I'm really looking forward to this game. Whoever plays the Saints next week should make for a great game too.

Cowboys will absolutely kill Minnesota. Brett Favre throws 3 picks minimum, write that down. The Cowboys OWN Brett Favre in the playoffs, I don't care what team he is on. The Cowboys have better recievers, better run game, better defense, and a better QB. The only thing Minnesota has going for them is they are at home, but that won't matter, Cowboys are white hot right now and there's nothing to stop them.

wow, you win 1 playoff game for the first time in almost 2 decades and now nothing can stop you? lol
What does that have to do with anything? If you want to use a franchises historical playoff success as a measuring stick for this game then the Cowboys beat the Vikings in that statistic as well. OK so now the Cowboys have a better defense, FAR BETTER WR AND TE, better run game, better QB, and now throw in your new statistic a better history as a franchise with more titles and playoff victories! Hurray!

If I'm not mistaken, the Cowboys played against Favre in the playoffs twice, in 1994 and 1995. Is that what you are basing this on?Vikings need something early to get them and the crowd going. Dallas has been burying teams early, and forcing them to be one dimensional. If that happens again, it could be ugly.

The Vikings 1 playoff win since 2001 and their storied championship past is any better?
a Viking fan did not post this gem:

for you and the poster of the quote the point is that yesterday's playoff game wasn't the superbowl.

Yeah calm down man. I understand your excitement but there is no way any team at this point is a guarantee to win. Cowboys are hot yes but Minny is very good. I expect Dallas to win but would not be surprised if they lose. I would be very surprised if Dallas got blown out. That aint happening. That D is the best going right now. THIS WILL BE FUN!! Keep it classy guys I know we have been part of some classless actions towards us but let's not go down that road please now that we are playing great. Let the haters be haters and let the boys do the talking on the field. They are loud talkers these days :lmao:

I have no horse in this race, but:Rice = Austin (Austin owner - its at LEAST close, if not even)

Berrian = Roy (Not that Berrian is anything special, but Roy is garbage)

Harvin > Crayton (Easily IMO)

Not sure I can agree that Dallas has better WR, nonetheless FAR BETTER WR.

Vikings have better WRs, better RB, better QB. And Witten might have more catches, but in a playoff game, I like Shiancoe's 11 TDs over Witten's 2 TDs.
