Dan Morgan to New Orleans (1 Viewer)

Morgan, who played almost exclusively at middle linebacker during his seven-year career with the Panthers, is expected to change positions and start at weakside linebacker for the Saints.

He’ll be playing alongside middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who was acquired last week in a trade with the New York Jets. Vilma was a true freshman during Morgan’s final season at the University of Miami. Scott Fujita will start at the other outside linebacker position for the Saints.
Also worth noting that this article and the local Cincinnati media are reporting that Landon Johnson is being courted as a potential starting WLB in Carolina.

YAAAAAY! I was afraid Johnson would be worthless this year.

Don't get too excited. Unless the Panthers use some interesting nickel packages, it'll be hard for Johnson to move Beason or Davis to the bench in the nickel. It's possible that Davis could be a standup roving rusher in place of a DT, with Beason and Johnson on the field as linebackers, but that's unlikely to happen on every down.

 IF, CAR signs LJ- do you at least see LB2 #s? He was my # 3 LB last year so any improvement would be great.

You have to like the LB moves by the Saints.

They nab two quality LB's for pennies on the dollar. 4th-rounder for Vilma and one-year contract for Morgan?!?! Insane talent for pennies on the dollar.

exactly. that crew is vastly improved and it really didn't cost them much. IF Morgan can somehow stay on the field that D will be much better. This will allow them to focus on addressing the corner position in the draft. This team could be in for a real good year. Kudos to the brass in NO

4th rounder this year. It could cost them a 2nd rounder in next year's draft though.I like these moves by the Saints. They are low risk but high reward kind of plays. I don't expect Morgan to stay healthy all season. If he's healthy and effective for half the year then the Saints are that much better at a position of need for 8 games. Morgan, when on the field, is an upgrade over Shanle.

I think it's safe to say that the Saints won't be looking at LB in R1 of the draft. It's DT or CB/S.

Dan Morgan is easily the most trying IDP I’ve ever owned. I cut ties with him last year and won’t look back.

I'm still a Morgan fan and wish him the best and maybe ... just maybe he can stay healthy  .

I don't know. Sometimes a change in scenery shakes things up a bit. There have been a few well known players that were injury prone in the first half of their careers and ended up finishing just fine. The reoccurring concussions are a concern though.. Ive been burned by Morgan more than once and likely will stay away too, but you can't deny that he was a top ten LB when healthy. The guy was a beast, period. If he can stay healthy, I think he could make a seriously nice comeback. I know that is a big IF, but you never know.

Agreed and I gave up last year too. But he remains one of my favorite players and I wish him well. Ya know... it wasn't a concussion last year. It was an ankle. Just thinking out loud here. Could that have been a blessing in disguise? He's going on two years with no concussions. Could the time between bell ringings have made his bell harder to ring? I just know I'm going to pick him up again. It's like a bad marriage with too much potential for a divorce and so little community property (he's cheap), there's no real worries.

Marginally so, if at all.He needs this.

Yeah, it didn't sound right as I was saying it.I prefer him here but maybe not in that hat.

I offically gave up on Dan Morgan yesterday. I traded him and Kevin Williams for a 2nd roud pick for 2009 for a lower tier team in a dynasty league.

I think Morgan still if he plays all 16 games a top 10 LB but he wont play all 16 games. If he does then this is a come up deal for the other owner cause Morgan is still pretty young. Plus throw in Kevin Williams one of the few D-Tackles that is a good fantasy threat who also is very young and it is a goo ddeal.

Highly unlikely to be top 10 @ WLB with Vilma likely next to him battling for tackles IMO.

He may have to battle w/Scott Shanle for PT.
