Lions fear Bullocks is lost for season

Posted by Tom Kowalski August 26, 2007 15:57PM

Second-year safety Daniel Bullocks might be lost for the season. Bullocks had his right knee buckle during a non-contact play late in the second quarter of Saturday's 37-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. An initial examination revealed the probability of a ligament tear, which would end Bullocks' season.

A more thorough examination will take place soon and the Lions are hoping it will reveal a sprain and not a tear, but club officials are already bracing for the worst.

Bummer. He was starting on my main leagues title team last year.

Picked him up to fill in for Roman Harper and now he gets hit. Sucks to scratch him off my lists. :(

Just what the Lions did not need... I think this is going to really hurt the Lions... How has Alexander and Bashir been looking? and who is the pick-up in deep IDP league if Bullocks is out?

Neither has stood out. I would take a guess and say Alexander would start, but at this point, it's just a guess. In a deep league, he would be the one to pick up in my opinion.

Confirmed: Bullocks out for season with torn ACL.

SECONDARY HIT: Lions S Bullocks out for season because of torn ACL

Daniel Bullocks, who would have been the Lions’ starting free safety, was played on injured reserve on Monday. He will miss the entire season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

“We loved him,” head coach Rod Marinelli said of Bullocks. “But you move on. It’s what the league is. The NFL is all about that. There’s disappointments, there’s tragedies in this league but the good, strong people in this league move forward.”

Marinelli said Idrees Bashir and rookie Gerald Alexander are the most likely candidates to replace Bullocks.

“He’s a heck of a player, but we’ve got two other guys back there that we like,” Marinelli said. “Bashir has been a starter in this league and he’s been in this system in Indy. And we like Gerald Alexander a lot. We’ve said that from Day 1.”

Marinelli said he hasn’t decided on who would start at free safety.

Bullocks was injured in Saturday’s 37-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He won't have surgery until the swelling in his knee goes down.
