Daniel Jeremiah's top-fifty draft rankings (1 Viewer)

Bracie Smathers

Mayock has his own thread and deservedly so but I've grown respect for DJ and the gang at College Football 24/7 and Move the Sticks. I think Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks and company have earned their own thread.

DJ put out an updated top-fifty draft ranking right before the Combine so this is how he has his top-fifty ranked today.

Only posting the top-ten, go to the list to see the rest and where you can click on the name to get his take on the player.

One interesting name missing from his top-ten right now is QB Marcus Mariota.

Click on the link to see his full list and where he put Mariota.

Top 50 NFL draft prospect rankings Florida's Humphries makes big jump into listDaniel Jeremiah
NFL Media analyst

It's been a month since the original Top 50 NFL draft prospect rankings came out. Since that time I've had the chance to watch tape on a lot more players and do more homework on players I was able to study previously.

The updated Top 50 list contains 11 new prospects, including Florida offensive tackle D.J. Humphries. Since the last rankings came out, I had a chance to watch Humphries and he's vaulted up into the top 20 of these rankings. Humphries is a prospect I really like on tape, and the buzz on him is starting to build around the league.

The NFL Scouting Combine should reveal more about prospects' standing among their peers, so expect another update to these rankings shortly after the event in Indianapolis.

For full analysis, click on the player's name.

I really don't understand all the White as top WR talk, let alone top 3 pick. Nice player, first round grade but it's getting overboard.

DJ > Mayock

DJ actually watches tape like Mayock used to.

I miss old Mayock.
DJ is becoming "commercialized" like the rest of them, though. Given enough time and Spotlight it's inevitable I guess. Still my favorite of the well known guys but he's slipping.

If you want a more in-depth take on why DJ has Kevin White as his top rated WR right now check out the latest Move the Sticks (MTS) podcast where he explains why he has White as his top rated WR.

Also he's already started the popular NFL Network show, 'Path to the Draft' with Charles Davis.

I won't become worried until he starts accepting other gigs, but I agree that it is inevitable. Enjoying it while it lasts...

His Browns picks are way off. Any mock that doesn't have the Browns taking a DL with one of their two 1st rounders is wrong.

Farmer has publicly stated that he doesn't like taking WRs in the 1st. To have him taking the 4th WR of the 1st round is absurd.

DJ has the Browns taking a DL with their top pick, #12.

12. Cleveland Browns - DT Malcom Brown 6'2 320 lbs Texas

Brown would give Mike Pettine a dominant interior defender to build around.

Analysis Strengths Showed great improvement during 2014 season and is considered a "riser" on draft boards by league scouts. Good bend in his hips to play low off the snap. Athletic big man who improved his quickness this year. Began to impose his will more frequently late in the season. Excels once he reaches a lineman's edge. Flashes power and control in his hands. Discards blockers when ready as a read-and-react defender and uses a punch to keep himself clean and scrape down the line after ball carriers. Eyes stay glued on ball carrier no matter what battle is in front of him. Can recover and improve positioning if he is losing early in snap. Light on his feet and diagnoses very quickly. Hard defender for offensive linemen to cross-face. Too athletic and talented to consistently single block. Weaknesses Despite size and frame, not consistently physical at the point of attack. Has average power in his lower body and struggles to hold his ground against double teams. Looking for secondary motor as rusher. Effort level stalls when his pass rush stalls. Is in need of a more polished counter move as a pass rusher. Would benefit from improved strength and ability to vary game from penetration to power. Plays hard but scouts do not consider him a "glass-eater." NFL Comparison Sylvester Williams Bottom Line Penetrating big man who took a huge step forward as an NFL prospect in 2014. Brown has hand quickness and uses hands like an NFL starter. His instincts and feel off the snap help him to get into the backfield quickly. Some personnel men believe Brown can play multiple spots along the line in a 4-3 or 3-4 defense, which could put him in play for a high number of teams.

Best mock I have seen to date. There is always some head scratchers in the first round. I get sick of people who say :no way team? is going to draft player ?" like they have some inside knowledge or something.

It seems to be in fashion to have two RBs in the first. I'm think none, maybe one
I'd be surprised if Gurley and Gordon don't end up in the first. It's not just a function of their talent, there also isn't the same sort of first round depth as in years past. There just aren't that many exceptional players in this draft. A lot of good ones, but not exceptional.

New Path to the Draft podcast.

DJ and Charles Davis run down their mock drafts and how they rank their top-five pass rushers and QBs.

Also neither of them feel that any team is going to trade up to the second pick for Marcus Mariota and that he will slip. CD has him going in the top-ten but he states he is on record saying that he won't fall out of the top-ten so he had to put him there but DJ says that others at NFL.com have him falling out of the top-ten picks and he makes the case of that happening.

I haven't listened to this one yet, but I plan too. Having listened to all of his other podcast and a lot of other segments DJ has done, I get the feeling he doesn't like Mariota. It's kind of weird in that he never comes out and just says that but it's a tone or language he uses when discussing him.

I can't see Mariota falling too far and I've been a bit of a contrarian of his, around here anyway. It's not that I don't like him I just always felt the hype was out of control and never aligned with the actual game film when you watch it. Seems that's caught up now. Regardless, the utter lack of anyone worthy of a 2nd round grade after him means he has a lot of demand in this draft. For example, I don't have him as a top 10 prospect but I'm pretty sure he's going top 5. We'll see.

Mariotta has all this drama about acquiring him and

Brett Hundley is a 2nd round prospect and some teams seem to really like the guy. On top of that, picking in the 2nd seems so less frantic today. Every combo of filling a major need in the first then taking Hundley in 2nd seems to work as a good idea for many teams.

Hundley is a late day three prospect that will probably be picked late round one.
If Hundley goes round 1 I'll puke in my mouth. Not that he won't. Anything is possible.
It would require one of the perennial bottomfeeders to trade up from the 2nd round. None of the teams drafting late is dumb enough to take this guy, especially in the 1st. They will gladly trade out and let a team like Washington or the Jets or the Browns hand them good picks for this inaccurate bum.

Yep, the team option fifth year that comes with first round picks makes an early second round qb a more cost effective late round one target, price to move up is modest in comparison. It was a great idea when that qb was a Bridgewater. Hundley? Not so much.

Two-round mock draft: Jameis Winston, Cedric Ogbuehi to Bucs

  • Published: April 21, 2015 at 10:14 a.m.
  • Updated: April 21, 2015 at 11:36 a.m
ROUND 1

1. Tampa Bay: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

Comment: The Bucs land their franchise quarterback.

2. Tennessee: Marcus Mariota, QB, Tennessee

Comment: I think Mariota will get picked here, but I'm not sure which team will be making the selection.

3. Jacksonville: Dante Fowler, Jr., OLB, Florida

Comment: Fowler would upgrade the edge rush in Jacksonville.

4. Oakland: Leonard Williams, DT, USC

Comment: Williams and Khalil Mack would be a dynamic combination.

5. Washington: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson

Comment: Beasley is the most explosive edge rusher in the draft.

6. New York Jets: Bud Dupree, OLB, Kentucky

Comment: Dupree is very raw, but he has double-digit sack potential.

7. Chicago: Danny Shelton, NT, Washington

Comment: Taking the top receiver is tempting, but the Bears address their defensive front.

8. Atlanta: Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri

Comment: The Falcons' No. 1 priority is upgrading the pass rush.

9. New York Giants: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

Comment: This isn't a big need, but Cooper might be too tempting to pass up here.

10. St. Louis: Brandon Scherff, G, Iowa

Comment: The Rams take the most physical blocker for the second year in a row.

11. Minnesota: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

Comment: This could be a cornerback, but adding another weapon for Teddy Bridgewater isn't a bad way to go.

12. Cleveland: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville

Comment: Parker would give the Browns a true No. 1 wideout.

13. New Orleans: La'el Collins, OL, LSU

Comment: Collins would be a great replacement for Ben Grubbs.

14. Miami: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

Comment: Waynes would fit nicely with the other new additions in Miami.

15. San Francisco: Arik Armstead, DT, Oregon

Comment: Armstead can dominate vs. the run and has some upside as a pass rusher.

16. Houston: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC

Comment: Several teams believe Agholor is the second-best route runner in the draft.

17. San Diego: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

Comment: The Chargers can't afford to pass on the top running back in the draft.

18. Kansas City: Malcom Brown, DT, Texas

Comment: Brown should be a three-down player right away for the Chiefs.

19. Cleveland: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State

Comment: Goldman is a dominating run defender and would be a nice fit in Mike Pettine's scheme.

20. Philadelphia: Breshad Perriman, WR, UCF

Comment: Perriman is one of the most polarizing players in the draft.
