Daniel Manning Value (1 Viewer)

Where should Daniel Manning be ranked in a return yardage league, now that Hester is no longer doing any of the returns? We only start one CB/S position. Do I try and grab Manning as my #1 DB or should I go for one of the more likely stud DB's and try and get Manning as my #2?

Here's my leagues scoring system:

1 point per 25 return yards

6 points per return TD

1.5 points per solo tackle

0.5 points per assist

3 points per sack

3 points per interception

2 points per forced fumble

2 points per fumble recovery

1 point per pass defended

If returning kicks and playing in an every down S/CB role...he is a #1 DB in return yardage leagues for sure.

He avg'd just over 14pts/week for weeks 12-17 last season when in a similar position. I believe that was .25 under Josh Wilson's numbers for the same stretch. I would target him and McKelvin as #1's who should both finish in the top 5 if they stay healthy.

I was targeting Manning as well, but it's starting to look a little tenuous for him as a starting FS:

"free safety Danieal Manning (hamstring) and cornerback Charles Tillman (back) are sidelined. At this point, it's looking like Manning, who spent the entire offseason working at nickel back, will have a difficult time securing the free-safety job he was moved to a week before camp. He's expected to be shut down awhile with the recurring hamstring injury.

Smith downplayed it Thursday, but the Bears need Manning at nickel and on kickoff returns and must have him 100 percent. He can't settle in at free safety if he's not practicing.

Chances are high for another flip-flop in the secondary, with Kevin Payne moving to free safety and rookie sixth-round pick Al Afalava getting a shot at strong safety."

We'll find a spot for him," said Smith. This means that Al Afalava and Kevin Payne could be in competition to be the Bears starting strong safety.Source: Chicago Sun Times
back on the D. Manning bandwagon

Yes!

I'm bumping last year's thread here.

This guy is so frustrating to own. The first half of last year he was absolutely dominant, easily my best S. The second half of the year he was my worst. The way that Lovie used him changed and he seemed to fall out of favor though I didn't get a clear understanding as to why.

His rankings among safeties seem to put him in the 30's which makes him a primary backup to starters, but if his inconsistency is factored in his real value is probably lower than that.

What's the story here?

he is paired with chris harris in the defensive backfield. lovie has harris playing FS and manning at SS, which is pretty much the opposite of their normal roles. major wright, the rookie, had a strong camp and was making a case for starting over manning. wright, however, was injured and bought manning some time. the bears secondary has looked about the same as it did last year - which is awful - and it will continue to be that way while lovie experiements with the lineup like that. i own manning and don't have high expectations for him unless he excels out of the gate. wright will overtake him quickly, i think.

He sounds like a guy to hold and watch over the first month before making a decision, if you have the roster space.

i think the smarter play is to grab major wright, especially in a dynasty format.

I'm scared of Manning.

His value plummeted last year when he was benched and taken off specials. No way I spend a decent draft pick on him.

I took Knox and Manning and seeing who gets the KR's
All indications have been that they will split. (I'm following it closely as I have Knox is a big return yardage league). Both will have prominant roles in their respective positions, so the KR yards will just be gravy, but certainly don't expect much more than 1 or 2 returns per game.

Based on recent seasons, I don't think the Bears have any idea what they are doing with their S position.

Manning could just as easily wind up a nickel corner as a starting SS.

In KR leagues he is a swing for the fences, high ceiling/low floor pick.

I wouldn't over invest.

Sums it up nicely. I own him in both my IDP leagues and he helped me last season early, he's a hold at the moment.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. My safety position is "blah" overall (Dawkins; Manning; Whitner; Mad. Williams; Stuckey), so I really want him to emerge for me.
