Seahawks | Jackson makes appearance at practice

Tue, 6 Jun 2006 15:44:06 -0700

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks WR Darrell Jackson (knee) made an appearance Tuesday, June 6, at the team's minicamp practice. Jackson has some concerns about his current contract situation, but appeared to be in a positive mood around the team. Jackson likely will not return to the field until sometime during training camp, as he wants to rest his surgically repaired knee as much as possible.

CURRENT CONTRACT

Salary History

2004 1000000.00

2005 1500000.00

2006 2500000.00

2007 3250000.00

2008 4000000.00

2009 4750000.00

What is with these guys?

The way that contract is structured, if he gets injured and is out of football, he'd only get the 2006 amount. He's on a surgically repaired knee, and he could injure himself again.

So, he wants to renegotiate so he gets something like $8 million up front and $2 million per year. He isn't likely to get it. But you can see why he would try.

The Seahawks should absolutely give him a new contract. Increase his total pay by a good margin but make the pay per game played. That way he gets more money for every game that he plays, but if he gets injured, again, he won't see that money.

I can see why Jackson would be concerned about not getting paid if he gets hurt, but obviously the Seahawks have a concern with paying somebody that isn't playing for them. It's unfortunate that Jackson keeps getting hurt, but he can't expect the Seahawks to throw free money at him when he has such a large injury history now.
