The Jaguars will have to deal with another injury to middle linebacker Mike Peterson. The standout defender, who sprained a knee in the preseason, strained a pectoral muscle early against the Jets and did not return; coach Jack Del Rio said that he is keeping his fingers crossed. If the injury is serious, Jacksonville may consider moving third-year player Daryl Smith to the middle. If so, Smith's value would significantly increase.

This shouldn't be new news. I thought it was always assumed that if Peterson missed time that Smith would be the man in the middle. With the Jags having a bye I wouldn't concern myself with this for a good week or so. Del Rio has become horrible with injury information and this gives him an extra week to play injury games.

I'm a big Daryl Smith fan and thought they should have considered making the move earlier. Peterson would be excellent at WLB and Smith is a natural MLB, IMO. Either way, tough to argue with what they've been doing though as their defense is tremendous.

Definitely think Smith could get an upgrade with a move inside just like Witherspoon used to get in Carolina when Morgan missed time.
