I thought I saw him on the field for a carry for two yards or so. At least he earned a spot on the bench for a helmet post.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2019/11/1/20943354/chiefs-say-they-need-to-get-two-offensive-players-more-involved
Could DThompson start seeing the field more??
I can't quit Darwin, just dropped Pollard for him.I think I might have to...1/2 a season to go.
That coach was talking highly about all of the KC running backs. He clearly graduated from the Sunshine Pete Carroll School of Talking Up Players. Pollard is a Kingmaker. If Zeke goes down, Pollard could be a top 5 running back. It would take 2 or 3 injuries for Darwin to possibly have the same value.
Allow him some evolution...rockaction said:My comment on seeing him out there was NOT an endorsement of him. He looked small and overmatched instantly.
My overstatement was in response to possible overreaction to my first comment, which was merely descriptive.Allow him some evolution...
I don't know...he's just so small on the field. He looks like a Beagle.Allow him some evolution...
Its alarming that he hasnt had a chance to play more than a handful of snaps this season - especially given the marginal talents that you just outlined that are ahead of him on the depth chart. You'd think they would at least give him a few looks to evaluate him. Its not like he would be taking carries away from Jamaal Charles, he would be taking them away from a bunch of mediocre other options.I don't see 3 guys in him next year. McCoy is old and they will owe him nothing after the season. Damien Williams is atop the depth chart and still very affordable next year so he will have to contend with him but many view him as a marginal talent. Darrel Williams is much the same as Damien as he also has a cheap contract and could be around but if you are a Darwin Thompson believer he has from now through the preseason next year 2 overtake 2 marginal talents (assuming somebody else isn't signed in the off season or drafted). He really is where he was after the draft. A 6th round draft pick playing on one of the best offenses in the league with two marginal RB in front of him. That still makes him a crap shoot with a high potential pay off.
On paper, he is listed almost exactly in height and weight as MJD, but Darwin looks way smaller on the field than MJD did. Same goes for Ray Rice, Darwin doesn’t look close to Rice’s size at all but they are listed almost identical.I don't know...he's just so small on the field. He looks like a Beagle.
If you're in the D.K. Metcalf or Kyler Murray thread at all, you'll hear that it's the choice of pads that make him look so big or so tiny. I'm serious. On paper, he is listed almost exactly in height and weight as MJD, but Darwin looks way smaller on the field than MJD did. Same goes for Ray Rice, Darwin doesn’t look close to Rice’s size at all but they are listed almost identical.
In today's NFL, rookie running backs are rarely starters. But the few running backs that are heavily used in their rookie year are of the the bigger variety. There are plenty of examples of smaller running backs eventually becoming bellcows e.g. MJD, CMC, Rice, Charles. But they aren't given the keys to the car in their rookie year. They have to play so well that their coach has no choice but to give them the opportunity. And remember, Darwin was a 6th round pick. I cannot think of one example of a small running back selected in the 6th round that immediately became the starter. On paper, he is listed almost exactly in height and weight as MJD, but Darwin looks way smaller on the field than MJD did. Probably not - I was gonna do some quick research. Then I thought, how small is small? Under 205? Then I thought, how many 6th round RB's start in their rookie year, even the big ones?Am I forgetting somebody?
205 or less is definitely small. This page will make it easy to search.Probably not - I was gonna do some quick research. Then I thought, how small is small? Under 205? Then I thought, how many 6th round RB's start in their rookie year, even the big ones?
Phil has 4.4 speed though, Darwin is slow. I don't think speed is the definitive measure for a RB but I can't get excited about a RB that is really small and is slow and went to a small school and was just ok there. It's too many red flags.Phillip Lindsay
How did we forget him?Phillip Lindsay
Where did all the DT hype come from then? Is he hung like John Holmes or something?Phil has 4.4 speed though, Darwin is slow. He isnt slow according to his pro day numbers. He ran a 4.5. Not a burner and at that size it would be nice to see a 4.4, but not really fair to call him slow either.Phil has 4.4 speed though, Darwin is slow. He was drafted onto the possibly the best offense ever. Kareem Hunt was a 3rd round pick, and slow, and from a small school, and became a stud immediately. And there was little competition. As soon as I heard that DT was getting first team snaps in the preseason, I was intrigued.Where did all the DT hype come from then? Is he hung like John Holmes or something?

Never underestimate the importance of electrolytes.Should be a big day for him delivering Gatorade to his active counterparts.
On the plus side I doubt anyone had him in their lineupsJesus. He is inactive.
This is hardly a surprise. Is he in your lineup or something?Jesus. He is inactive.
My Darwin theory was to pick up both him and Darrel. He'll get a couple touches, I chose to pick up Darrel Williams over him this morning.
It only "began" after the starter left with an injury AND the team was up by 30. I wouldn't take this as indicative of any future performances...Has it begun?
Or is it a trick? Hmmm...
Darwin Thompson rushed 11 times for 44 yards and one touchdown in the Chiefs' 40-9, Week 13 win over the Raiders.
Damien Williams (ribs) missed this one and Darrel Williams suffered a second-half hamstring injury, paving the way for Thompson to get involved for the first time all year. He entered Sunday with eight touches. Thompson was hyped up all summer and we saw flashes of it in this one, looking like possibly the most explosive back on the roster. Thompson punched in a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for his first career score. If the Williams' miss Week 14 against the Patriots, Thompson could be in for a big role alongside LeSean McCoy. It's just unfortunately a brutal on-paper matchup.
