Daryl Washington suspended for the year (1 Viewer)

Ray Rice should be worried now
He definitely should, but it is likely that Washington's prior suspension under the drug policy also came into play here. That is, I am not expecting a full year for Rice.
Not really sure the NFL can hang their hat on that. Pretty messy territory Goodell is walking into here, IMO. He loves being the Sherriff though even when he continues to look aloof getting booed at the draft podium.

are we truly going to argue that a man who choked out his baby mama, breaking some bones, doesnt deserve a year off?

Sounds right to me. Rice as well.

Every Commisioner gets booed at the draft podium.

It means zero, like the honey badger, Goodell just doesn't give a #### if he's booed, nor should he.

Schefter retweeted the Jurecki tweet.

Say his ends up being true - How come Schef didn't break the news? Isn't he the all knowing, never wrong, always first guy to break everything?

This is the kind of suspension the NFL should be handing out... not suspending Gordon for getting high.

Also apparently the penalty for "choking out" a woman is worse than the penalty for "knocking out" a woman. I'm not sure I see a relevant distinction.

Choking someone out is way worse IMO. Grabbing someone by the neck and hanging on until the person falls unconscious or dead not in the same ball park as a one punch knockout.

Let it go, not every thread is about your arguments with Phenix or whoever insulted you about Gordon's suspension.

I was always under the impression the two policies don't affect one another
This is my statement as well. Outside of the Saints suspensions for rewarding players for injuring other players where have we seen a suspension this long handed out for conduct?

What if you knock them out, but then choke them. Seems kinda redundant, I know; but the NFL like high-motor guys.

The suspension is for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, the same reason Washington was suspended last year, and unrelated to Washington’s recent plea bargain for an assault charge. The suspension begins immediately.
Well since this thread will most likely degrade into a Josh Gordon debate... far less interesting now.

Ray Rice should be worried now
I was thinking Gordon should
And here I am with both Washington and Gordon on my team. Oh, and Mathis. Good thing I traded away Rice 2 moths ago!
Mind sharing the rest of your roster with us? You seem to have some kind of strange reverse psychic powers. I want to know if I need some alternatives plans.
Trade A Rodgers and Calvin immediately.....

Now official: Cardinals LB Daryl Washington has been suspended at least one year for violating Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
Anyone else confused by the tweet?

for violating policy AND program for substances of abuse.

sounds to be like he's getting hit for 2 separate things here... no?

or is "policy and program" one thing?

edit: nevermind

@MikeGarafolo 1m

Daryl Washington statement references substance-abuse policy "related to marijuana." Apologizes, commits to making "changes in my life."

Why has Washington's news leak/official suspension happened in a matter of hours, but not a peep from the NFL about Gordon since the draft?

Appeal/decision on appeal still ongoing would be my guess.

Based on some comments from Greg Little and my own extrapolation, it sounds like Gordon's issue might not have been a positive test but rather a missed test or something with mitigating circumstances which could be dragging it out.

I got crucified for saying this. Just a heads up.

If there hasn't been a penalty handed down, what is there to appeal?

Side note:

Why isn't this in the idp forum? That forum gets no love. Like a ghost town compared to this one.

Carry on.

who is Daryl Washinton and why should we care?
Somebody on NFL Live said he is the only player with 300 tackles and 15 sacks since 2011 (and that was missing four games last year). He played at a Defensive Player of the Year level in 2012. Definitely one of their most talented defensive players with Calais Campbell and Patrick Peterson. ARIs points allowed dropped about 2.5 points once Washington returned from suspension last year (also from ESPN).

The Cards defense is now missing Washington and Karlos Dansby, who went to CLE. Huge blow to their defense.

I think Rae Carruth is still suspended.

There's a thread there. There's strategy talk there of who gets bumped in AZ defense now, instead of whatever Mets and Gordon stuff that has taken over this one.
