Daughter reacts very badly to mosquito bites... (1 Viewer)

When she gets a bite, it swells up really badly. It looks like a huge wasp or spider bite. She got one on the bridge of the nose near the corner of her eye and her eye swelled halfway shut.

Called the Dr and nurse said they are getting a bunch of freaked out parents calling and coming in about this. They said benadryl and some OTC hydrocortisone cream.

I honestly don't remember myself or any kids I knew reacting this strongly. It's kinda creepy looking.

My daughter is also super allergic. They swell up to nickel or quarter size.

And yeah, benadryl and cortisone cream works great.

My daughter has the same reaction....It calms down fairly quickly....I load her up with spray if she is outdoors during the heavy active hours. My guess it is an allergic reaction.

I have the same reaction, and it doesn't help that the things absolutely love me. I use benadryl cream. Gotta get it early for the best results though.

My Mom has always had severe reactions to bites and like Black Box, they seem to have a particular affinity for her. We can be sitting outside and everybody gets a bite or two and she gets 20.

My son reacts very badly to mosquito bites, too. Whenever he gets bitten, he's all, "NOOO!! GOD NO! WHY ME, GOD?? WHY MUST THE MISQUITOS BITE ME?! CURSE YOU FOR BLESSING ME WITH SUCH SWEET, SUGARY BLOOD!"

Story of my life.

I don't even bother staying outside once dusk feeding time rolls around.

My daughter is also allergic to them. Giant welts. She seems to do better if she can wash the area with soap and water.

We were hoping she would grow out of it or at least get better as she's gotten older but she's 9 now and it's the same.

Preventing the bites is really the best solution for us.

Mosquitoes love me too.I'm thinking about trying out this homemade mosquito trap in the back yard this year.

And even though it looks super nerdy, the little mosquito repellant fan things that you clip onto your clothes really does work well. Otherwise, deep woods Off is great.

Wearing brighter clothes can also help as they are attracted to dark colors. Most people that get bit a lot exhale more CO2 than others. Not a ton you can do about that one.

We had her preschool graduation ceremony today and the looks we got from other parents :bag:

It seriously looks like someone shot her face up with a pellet gun. Makes me sad but it seems like they don't bother her too much.

I read on Facebook recently that if you heat up a spoon and press it to the bite, it will break down the toxin and relieve itching (and possibly allergic reaction?). Considering the source, I would have someone else test it before trying it in your daughter.

It's the same effect that urinating on a mosquito bite has. It's probably safer to pee on your daughter than possibly burning her skin with hot metal.
