After investigating an early October domestic incident involving 29-year-old Najeh Davenport, the Cleveland Police department announced today that charges have been brought against the Pittsburgh Steeler's running back.

According to Cleveland Police Lt. Thomas Stacho, Davenport has been charged with domestic violence, endangering children and unlawful restraint.

Davenport is not currently in custody and will be given a chance to surrender to police on the charges.

On Thursday, October 4th, at 8:52 p.m., Cleveland Police investigated a report of a domestic dispute at 1374 E.115 Street.

According to Stacho, the incident involved Davenport and the mother of his 5-year old child, Anita Person, 27, of Cleveland.

The dispute resulted from a custody matter involving Davenport's and Person's child.

Cleveland Police received three 9-1-1 calls between 8:45 p.m. and 9:02 p.m. from individuals at the house where the incident took place.

No arrests were initially made as officers were unable to determine the primary physical aggressor in the dispute.

If convicted Davenport could face more than 1 year in jail, 6 months for domestic violence, 6 months for endangering children and 60 days for unlawful restraint.

Actually, you're right, I was being a little facetious before, in light of all of the FWP complaining last week about being vultured by Davenport. If the story is true, he has reverted to his scumbag ways. If its true, as a Steeler fan, I don't want him. Dump the dumptruck.

There was an article in the Post Gazette a couple days ago, and according to his version of events, the woman in this case is a complete lunatic.

Basically what happened is he showed up to get the kids(for a scheduled visit) she freaked out, chased the car down the street, opened the door, and grabbed his youngest son, and the kid started crying. He calls the cops, etc etc.

FREE THE DUMP TRUCK!

Dear Dookie,

Don't get into these fights, man! Arguments are bad for the soul! I got something to calm you down. Here, try some of this...

I thought your were going to say she chased the car down the street, opened the door and took a dookie in the backseat!! You had me going...

Anyways, I heard they found the supposed assault weapon under a pile in the closet. Oh, sorry. Pile of clothes.

Still amazes me the Browns never tried to sign this guy. They would give him a closet instead of locker, that would be sweet!!!

SHOW THE DUMP TRUCK WHERE THE TOILET IS!

1. Even if true, this will drag through legal processes for quite sometime. I doubt highly that Dookie would miss much time this year.

2. Who would be #2 behind FWP then? :rimshot:

I've got the #1 WW position and wasgoing to grab Najeh, maybe I should take Jason Wright instead.
Wright would have been a better grab anyway as Jamal may still be out but Fast Willie is still starting.
I was thinking more long term.I have no shot of winning this season.
Somehow, this doesn't surprise me...........
Did the "#1 waiver wire position" give it away ?

I don't see much happening to Davenport but if in fact he does miss any games FWP would just carry a heavier load and Carey Davis would get a few extra carries.

Rookie Gary Russell has not been suiting up but if Davenport misses any time Russell would probably get a token carry or two but probably not much more.

That's what the Steelers get for picking up a guy with a past like poops. From the espn article:

Pittsburgh first-year coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the incident following the team's victory over Seattle last Sunday, a game in which Davenport played well and scored a pair of touchdowns. Tomlin acknowledged the Steelers were aware that Davenport had been questioned by police but said that people should defer judgment until all of the facts were made public.
Of course, this is what Steelers fans are known for saying.Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.-QG

I can understand the "domestic violence", the "endangering children" but the "unlawful restraint"? From the guy who believes "when you gotta go, you gotta go".

Restraint is the furthest thing from his mind.

I learn something new every day. From here on out, I will chuckle every time I hear Najeh's name called.

This quote is priceless:

====

"Where's the evidence? Where's the manure?" Davenport asked outside court.

====
I kinda like this part"and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief will be dropped." It already was!

Seriously I didn't know anybody didn't know this. That's why he's Davenpoop

On local TV this morning they were saying that the charges against Davenport are misdemeanors.

Apparently Davenport was picking up his son and the mother flipped out him. Reportedly Davenport was covered with scratches but the mother had no apparent injuries so they let Davenport go. A few days later the mother went to the police and showed them some bruises and she is pressing charges.

If that is all there is to it then I doubt Davenport or the Steelers have anything to worry about.

I think the important part is that he was charged with three misdemeanors. It's not like he was charged with a "laundry list" of felonies.

hmm. Bruises. Like bruises on the arm from being held tightly while you're going berserk on the father of (one of?) your kid(s)? Chick goes nuts. He calls 911. He has visible marks. Cops can't figure out what to do. Days later she has some bruises. He gets charged. Makes perfect sense.

These charges are obviously crap. That woman must be a piece of ####. My main opponent in my league has FWP, so I need Davenport to carry the load.

From the blogger,

Steelers RB Davenport Charged With Three Misdemeanors

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN - [Full Article]

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najeh Davenport has been charged by Cleveland police with three misdemeanor counts as the result of an alleged Oct. 4 domestic incident. Domestic violence and Endangering Children charges, both first-degree misdemeanors, each carry a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. An unlawful restraint misdemeanor is a third-degree charge, with maximum punishment of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.

My thoughts...

You can hope they are just dismissed, I would be a bit more worried that he may be handcuffed by the league if he tries to just take a plea deal. Would the league hand out a suspension if he pleads guilty to one of the charges (or a lesser charge) ?

Interesting as he may be better off just delaying and fighting it, rather than taking the chance that the league hands down a suspension.

They wouldn't suspend him, they'd slap him on the wrist and wag their finger at him like they did with that thug Joey Porter.

From CBS Sportsline:

Najeh Davenport, RB PIT

News: According to MyFoxCleveland.com, Steelers RB Najeh Davenport has been charged with three counts stemming from from an dispute earlier this month with the mother of his five-year-old child. Cleveland Police Lt. Thomas Stacho said Thursday that Davenport has been charged with domestic violence, endangering children and unlawful restraint. Davenport is not currently in custody and will be given a chance to surrender to police on the charges.

Analysis: If convicted, Davenport could face more than one year in jail, six months for domestic violence, six months for endangering children and 60 days for unlawful restraint, said MyFoxCleveland.com. The Steelers are on a bye in Week 6 and it's unclear whether Davenport will turn himself in before Week 7. He will likely be released to await a hearing anyway, so he shouldn't miss any time this season, but keep an eye on this situation.
