David Garrard resigns with the Jets (1 Viewer)

He's actually been signed to the Exempt List, which means that the Jets can evaluate him for 2 weeks without having to put him on the roster.

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on SportsCenter early Monday that "it would not be an upset" if the Jets turned to David Garrard at quarterback for Week 14.

Quietly signed off the street on October 10, Garrard was activated from the Exempt List later in the month and has been sitting on the Jets' weekly inactives list since. Geno Smith has hit rock bottom and then some, and Matt Simms didn't spark the Jets' offense off the bench in Sunday's embarrassing loss to Miami. At this point, 35-year-old Garrard is simply the team's best option. He also has internal support from first-year GM John Idzik.

Jesus. NY Jets are a joke. Why would you even waste your time with a never was like this guy? Give Simms as much time as Smith got. I doubt Simms is anything but I know Garrard is nothing. Simms brother sucked. They accomplish nothing by starting Garrabage They are only fooling themselves if they think they have a shot at making the playoffs.

Now in fantasy, yes start him. It could actually make some running room for Ivory.

Because he's the best option? And he's not exactly a "never was" -- the guy has a career 85.8 passer rating (15 points higher than Mark Sanchez) and made a Pro Bowl.

Oh, and Simms is awful.

While I mostly agree - although Garrard was a playoff caliber starting QB at one point, not a "never was" - the line of thinking could be that Garrard could conceivably act as a bridge/stop gap QB next season (at 36), for either Geno or another drafted QB, if he shows he's healthy and can still play the rest of the way this season.

Matt Simms is an undrafted FA and while he's a tough kid and has shown some flashes, he isn't really all that good either, and the odds are almost as long against him being the future QB of this team as Garrard looking healthy and leading the team to the playoffs next season.

The team is a hot mess right now, no doubt.

No doubt Garrard is the seasoned vet they needed to come in and groom Geno to lead the Jets to the promised land*.

*promised land = The Underground, a foot lovers palace down on 19th....rumor has it David has an "in" at the door.

Rotoworld update:

The Jets informed Geno Smith on Monday that he will start in Week 14.

The Raiders' defense is now on the fantasy radar as a streamer play. Smith has been a turnover machine since early in the season, getting benched repeatedly. Although there was Monday morning speculation veteran third-stringer David Garrard would get the Week 14 nod, that isn't happening. It is possible, however, that Geno will be backed up by Garrard this week, instead of Matt Simms.

Best move is to start Geno, watch him destruct, and speed up the process of getting rid of him and looking for a real franchise QB. A few more games like the previous ones and this guy will never recover.
