Titans WR Givens lost for season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2006) -- Tennessee receiver David Givens tore a left knee ligament on a freak play Nov. 12 when he planted his leg and will miss the rest of this season.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Givens tore the anterior cruciate ligament.

Givens had to be carted off the field after being hurt on the Titans' second play of the fourth quarter of a 27-26 loss to Baltimore. Travis Henry ran for 7 yards off right tackle, and Givens had stopped and planted his left leg to start blocking when he went down.

Fisher said Givens will have surgery once the swelling eases.

"He just came off the thumb injury, worked very hard, and now we've lost him for the season," Fisher said.

Givens signed a five-year contract in March. He had an ankle injury in minicamps, a virus, then a hamstring injury. He broke his left thumb Oct. 1 and tore a tendon that needed a pin inserted.

He had only eight catches for 104 yards this season.

What is the WR situation going to look like for the rest of the year in Tennessee? What about future years? Between Courtney Roby, Roydell Williams, and Brandon Jones, who has the best shot and what can we expect? Any :homer: 's want to chime in?

Personally, I'd pin my hopes on Brandon Jones, but wouldn't expect much for a year or two considering Vince's struggles.

I'm not sure about the long term WR situation but for this year i like Drew Bennet, as it looks like hes a reliable veteran that Vince Young can lean on aside from his TE (Bo)per RotoworldDrew Bennett caught six passes for 115 yards in a Week 10 loss.Impact: Bennett had over 100 yards before halftime by exposing Baltimore's deep coverage, mostly while being covered by Chris McAlister. He displayed great hands, rare to see from Bennett. This is a great sign for Bennett under Vince Young, but we don't expect consistency from the rookie signal-caller. It was Bennett's first game over 60 yards since Week 3.

If i was a Titan fan I'd want a refund on Givens. What a waste.
Agreed - classic case of a team throwing a lot of money at a guy who had decent success in a very good system, and expecting him to ascend to the next level in a different (less favorable) one.To be fair, having Young back there and injuries sure didn't help, but he underperformed even when in there.
