David Harris (1 Viewer)

As a David Harris owner I'm very pleased by the most recent developments, but...

Long-term: What leads people to believe that Harris will succeed where Vilma "failed"?

He's playing a different position in the scheme, he has a better skill set and he has a better attitude about the 3-4. His first two game lines were propped up a bit by opportunity, but his on-field play was stellar.

So far so good

2-0, 1 sack on just 2 PIT possessions.

He almost just had his 2nd sack on a 3rd down rush, but Roethlisberger escaped the tackle.

Anyone besides Roeth at QB, and Harris would have 3-0, 2 sacks (10 pts in my league) already

I think this dude will help carry some people's teams come playoff time if he keeps this up

I agree with Jene, except that my observations say Harris is playing the same position in the scheme that Vilma did. The Jets did not change their scheme when Vilma got hurt, nor did they rotate the LB's around. Bottom line is that Vilma hates the 3-4, isn't suited to it either from a talent or mental aspect, while Harris is. Vilma wants to be a pro bowler, and doesn't think he can be in the 3-4. Harris is thrilled just to play, and has a better grasp on the position.... he attacks where Vilma laid back. I see Vilma elsewhere next year in a 4-3, and see no reason why Harris won't continue to put up solid FF numbers.

If this is true, then Jene, how would this change your assessment of the RILB/LILB debate? If memory serves, you had some really cool analysis that broke down LB performance in the 3-4. Do you plan to revisit that analysis during the offseason? It was a huge factor in the Patrick Willis debate this past offseason.

We've kept it out of the forum, but Rovers and I have continued our debate about where Harris has played off-FBG. My contention, albeit based on just the few snaps I've seen from NFL.com, remains that Harris is playing SILB where Vilma played predominantly WILB. I've yet to find time to review the Jets-Cowboys DVR, which will help, and will post if I see something different. The 3-4 ILB issues will definitely be one of the many things we revisit this offseason.

Got it. Thanks for the response Jene. I look forward to the offseason analysis.

However, Harris climbed off his lofty perch last week. 6 tackles is not a disaster, but hardly uber-stud.
He got ripped off from a sack/ff that was credited to Mosley. Harris flew in a knocked the ball out of Romo's hands. With that play, he would have continued his monster run.Ifs and buts, I guess, though.

Great game out of him today!

I really needed those 28 points! My LB's might have saved my season today! Gotta love having Harris and Willis (35 points today) in a start 2 LB dynasty league!

my four LB's yesterday were:

David Harris

Jon Beason

Patrick Willis

DeMeco Ryans

scored me over 100 points!!!

I also started Jared Allen who got me 36.

I broke the league record for points at 509 and I still have one player tonight.

for all the misery the Jets have had this season, they did do a nice job drafting a couple of very solid players in Revis and Harris
