***David Wilson Bandwagon*** (3 Viewers)

Wilson is still only 22 and will have just turned 23 when next season starts.

He is younger than most of this years Rookie RBs (Lacy, Ball, C.Michael, Ellington and teammate M.Cox, to name a few) and will likely be younger than quite a few of the 2014 rookie RBs.

Here are the youngest RBs in the NFL in age order (Wilson has the highest ypc and most tds per touch of the group)

  1. Bell, Le'Veon - 21
  2. Randle, Joseph - 22
  3. Hillman, Ronnie - 22
  4. Bernard, Giovani - 22
  5. Lattimore, Marcus - 22
  6. Davis, Knile - 22
  7. Wilson, David - 22
By the way … NYC RB Savior Andre Brown who will be 28 next season finished the season with 3 tds , 3.5 ypc and 3 fumbles.

Over his last 3 games – 40 Carries for 68 yds or 1.7 ypc, 0 tds and 2 fumbles … Wow!!!!

Makes Wilson Look Like AP!!!!!!

David Wilson's neck surgery will take place on January 16.

That's next Thursday. Per the New York Daily News, Wilson will have a "fusion of the vertebrae" to repair his herniated disc. It's not unprecedented for an NFL running back, but is a serious operation. GM Jerry Reese has only said he expects Wilson to be ready for the "fall." He'll almost certainly miss the Giants' entire offseason program, and is highly questionable for training camp. Dynasty league owners can't count on having Wilson for Week 1.

schefty thinks there is a chance this is it

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter3m
Giants announced that former first-round pick, RB David Wilson, will undergo neck surgery and his football future is uncertain.

it would be sad if one of the most elite talents ever to play running back had to retire because of this

his legend will live on forever though. He's like Gayle Sayers or Bo Jackson, only better, and possibly with a shorter career.

WHY GOD WHY?!?!?!?!?!

WHY MUST THE BRIGHTEST ONES FLAME OUT SO FAST!!!!!!

Rotoworld:

Giants GM Jerry Reese won't guarantee that David Wilson (neck surgery) will be ready for 2014.
"I don’t think so," Reese said when asked if the Giants could count on Wilson's health for next season. "No. 1: We just want David to get healthy. If he gets healthy, that’s a bonus. But I don’t think we can go into next season saying ‘David will be ready to go. He’ll be our No. 1 back.’ Necks can be tricky. You have to be careful with those things." Reese had previously suggested Wilson could be ready for the "fall" even if he went under the knife. We're unlikely to get a great sense of Wilson's status before training camp.

Traded him for Patterson before the start of last season, laughing my ### off all the way to the bank.
Hmmm. Let me know when the Vikings trade for Aaron Rodgers and Adrian Peterson retires. Until then you have a #4 wr that will blow up some weeks, but you will never know when those weeks will be. This makes him wasted roster space on your fantasy team, unless you play best ball style, and I really like Patterson as a talent.

Doesn't matter. He can flip him right now for ten times what Wilson's worth. That's what counts in January.

#4 WR? I guess it depends on the league scoring

I play in 4 leagues all with different scoring systems

This is how he finished in those leagues

#39 WR

#2 WR (TD heavy - return league)

The last rb I remember getting a neck procedure was Steve slaton. Not sure if his was a vert fusion, but I think so. I wonder if Wilson's fumbling was due to this. Leading upto slaton's surgery he lost feeling in his fingers.

There had to be more involved in the deal than that. Wilson was worth quite a bit more at the time. If it was for Patterson straight-up, you sold incredibly low only to get incredibly lucky. I've seen owners who gave up a lot more than that for Wilson.

I think he meant in terms of depth chart for the Vikings...not fantasy WR's.

That's wrong too.

I think Wilson having surgery is a good sign. No way he has surgery if he has played his last down. They will fix him and I anticipate he will be terrific value in dynasty leagues. He can be had right now for nothing.
I own Wilson in one league and unfortunately I just can't spin neck surgery into a positive, as you seem to be able to do.

Patterson is a waste of a roster space in a dynasty league?

Agreed. I can't see any positive other than that the poor guy - at least now - doesn't have to retire. From from a fantasy standpoint, even the most optimistic owner of Wilson has to be moving on from what could have been.

I wouldn't say I got lucky, one player was clearly more talented than another so I made the swap.

I tried dealing him for more but found no takers. Some dude drafted Patterson #6 overall so I sent the offer over 5 minutes later and got my guy.

I thought this was a really informative article on the issue. The article pertains to Finley but it's really pertinent to this type of injury. My take away from the article was that if you suffer from a spinal injury it's not a freak occurrence. Something is structurally wrong, the surgeon mentions 4 items that cause this and says that even if surgery was not recommended he'd be afraid it was because something was missed.

My interpretation of that is you have a spinal injury it means something is structurally wrong which means the only way you would likely ever have a chance to correct the issue and play again is if you actually have surgery. It's just not going to heal with time.

Maybe you can interpret this different or don't care for this guys medical opinion but I'm in the camp who actually thinks him getting surgery is a good thing in the sense it was his only way to try and return. I think Reese intimated as much a few weeks ago when he said he thought doctors could fix this if Wilson wanted to have the surgery. The "if he wants to" part indicates to me he was likely told surgery was not necessary to live a normal life outside the NFL but it was his only option if he wanted to return.

I don't think so. Let's talk normal numbers in a standard 1 PPR dynasty league. Congrats to his WR48 finish, just behind Marlon Brown and one point ahead of Boykin. I will take any of the Packer's top 3 wide receivers before Patterson. See my original logic.

That's not logic. You are presenting a statement of fact on what Patterson was this year.

Many of us would call it illogical to assume that Patterson will never improve and what he was this year is simply what he is. By your method you would be have been calling Calvin Johnson nothing but a WR3 after his rookie year.

He did well this year and will likely do well next year. That does not mean I want him on my fantasy team. Excellent job of capturing all WRs of all time in your poor attempt at making a point. My advice is accurate. This is the worst football team in their division, who utilize a running offense with terrible QB play.

At least this thread is finally moving past David Wilson.
...and into the valley of the stupid.
It's been in the valley of the stupid pretty much since day one. Or did you miss the Wilson = Barry Sanders + Jamaal Charles part?
I guess I did - or I'm getting old and can't remember all the way back to September.

I'm still trying to figure out how an NFL first round WR that started flashing in the second half of his rookie season is a waste of a dynasty roster spot though.

You can bend your mind trying to figure it out or you can read my post above and have it handed to you.

My advice is accurate.
:goodposting: A WR who finished WR18 in PPR over the 2nd half of his rookie season is wasting a roster spot in dynasty leagues.
Posters with the lowest intelligence cherry pick to try to make their point. You don't get to select the stats you like.
You should probably stick to talking about how dumb the Steelers were for paying Antonio Brown instead of Mike Wallace. Oh wait...

I never said a bad word about Antonio Brown. I said the Steelers were broke and screwing Mike Wallace, which was accurate. Also, Coeur de Lion was a war monger who committed countless atrocities, taxed his people excessively, and whose sexuality is in question. I also think the French are dbags. Anything else?

We now have a 103 page thread on david wilson

who averages 24 rushing yards per game (4 pages per aveage yard rushed!)

we have a 103 page thread on a running back who (according to pro football reference) has in his 2 seasons in the nfl amassed a total of 84 fantasy points (1.2 pages per point scored!)

he has 6 rushing and receiving TDs, that is a whopping 17 pages per TD

Tim Tebow thinks this guy is over hypedon this board

:lmao:

I actually think Wilson the volleyball has a better shot at being fantasy relevant than David Wilson. At least we know Wilson the volleyball's neck isn't all jacked up.

My logic and statement of fact is that Minnesota QBs suck monkey balls and will do so for the next 2-3 years. I like Patterson.
And you think Weeden, Hoyer, Campbell and Andy Dalton are among the best QBs in the league? First of all; a WR can have top production even when playing with a mediocre or bad QB. It's about target distribution. Second, the Vikings situation in 2014 is far from settled when it comes to coaching and QB, so in terms of system this seems like the perfect opportunity to be bullish on Patterson. His surroundings can only get better compared to 2013. And third, if there is a dynasty league where Patterson is not rostered it is a league that is not worth playing. He has clearly demonstrated that he has a very high ceiling and high risk / high ceiling players are always more interesting in dynasty than high floor / low ceiling players. Nobody is playing FF to be number 5 in the standings. Patterson was always going to be raw coming in and judging dynasty potential based on rookie production is the safest way to never be ahead of the curve.

Now...going back to the topic of this thread: the 2013 season has of course been a huge setback for Wilson. It hardly could have been worse considering the injury, his production when playing, and his fumbling issues which we all know is a biggie playing for Coughlin. However, his talent and ceiling is still very interesting, and given that the neck injury is a fact, surgery is a good thing since that means that he is trying to return. But of course; although the surgery is a positive it is still only a tiny bit of good news in what has been a devastating and potentially career ending season. With all that being said I would still argue that his ceiling is high and considering that he doesn't have any trade value at this point owners have little choice but to keep him rostered. For salary cap leagues I would wait as long as I can through the offseason but then get out if the penalty is not too big and one is in need of the roster or salary cap space. Who knows...some buzz about successful surgery...some buzz from training camp that he is looking very good...it doesn't really take that much for the media to turn again and before the preseason is over he could again have some value - at least in a trade to an owner who is sold on his high ceiling. Owners that are stuck with Wilson simply have to ride it out and see what happens. Things change fast in the NFL.

David Wilson revealed on Twitter Thursday that he's out of his neck brace.
Wilson underwent surgery on January 16. The Giants have spoken of their 2012 first-round pick as if Wilson's 2014 availability will be a bonus. We expect them to pursue re-signing Andre Brown or perhaps free agent James Starks, who played in Green Bay with new Giants OC Ben McAdoo. Wilson is a hold in Dynasty leagues, but his 2014 re-draft value is entirely up in the air.

What I find amusing is how much posts about the irrelevance and magnitude of this thread have contributed to the irrelevance and magnitude of this thread... ;)

There is a lot of disagreement on Wilson, and lot has happened to him since the beginning of the thread. Is it all that shocking that there would be a lot of discussion about him? Highly drafted back, shows some exceptional traits, displays some inconsistency, on a team that his produced decent fantasy numbers at the RB position, has some major injury concerns, seems to be addressing those concerns... Naah, nobody wants to talk about that guy. Except all the people who don't think we should be talking about him.

A source close to the situation told ESPN Giants reporter Dan Graziano that David Wilson's neck surgery is going "very well," and Wilson has already begun weightlifting and working out.

The source told Graziano there's "no reason to believe (Wilson) won't be playing" in 2014. Still just 22 years old, Wilson underwent "fusion of the vertebrae" to repair his herniated disc on January 16. The Giants are still likely to approach their offseason as if anything Wilson provides in 2014 will be a bonus. Re-signing free agent Andre Brown may be GM Jerry Reese's first order of business. Brown won't be expensive to keep.

also, whats the difference from Wilson's injury and Finley's?

Traded him for Patterson before the start of last season, laughing my ### off all the way to the bank.
Hmmm. Let me know when the Vikings trade for Aaron Rodgers and Adrian Peterson retires. Until then you have a #4 wr that will blow up some weeks, but you will never know when those weeks will be. This makes him wasted roster space on your fantasy team, unless you play best ball style, and I really like Patterson as a talent.

I don't think so. Let's talk normal numbers in a standard 1 PPR dynasty league. Congrats to his WR48 finish, just behind Marlon Brown and one point ahead of Boykin. That's not logic. You are presenting a statement of fact on what Patterson was this year. Many of us would call it illogical to assume that Patterson will never improve and what he was this year is simply what he is. By your method you would be have been calling Calvin Johnson nothing but a WR3 after his rookie year.

Didn't Calvin have a good year with Drew Stanton and others throwing to him? And Fitzgerald in 2011 put up 1400 and 8 with Kolb and Skelton
