DB return men (1 Viewer)

I am new to the IDP format and my league awards 1pt for every 25 return yards. Is this even worth worrying about? If so who are some of the return men that double as starting DBs. I had Justin Miller from the jets but he just got demoted.

Terry McGee is the big one. He returns kickoffs and is a middle of the pack DB. But when you add them both together, he might end up being the highest scoring DB.

Willie Andrews - DB - NE. Plus, he briefly worked out at WR. he could end up doing what Troy Brown did last year - not sure if you could parlay that into points should he play offense.

Edited to say that he is not a starting DB....

:goodposting:  In our league scoring format, he has been top 5 IDP player the last 2 years. He scored 30 points on me in the championship game (week 16). Not to mention I had Palmer who threw an INT that McGee returned for a score (not to mention the KO return score).... but I digress. :ptts: McGee is a starting corner who I believe is very physical. he's had 130+ solo tackles the last two years, with 30 or so more assists. 2 years ago he was a monster returning kicks. Pacman could be a nice little steal too.Darrent Williams in Denver returned kicks last year, not sure about this year. In leagues that allow for Kickoff/Punt return points, Dante Hall is always a sneaky play. Their D has been a swinging gate.Justin Miller (NYJ) is a nickle back if I remember correctly....IMHO this spot should be reserved for Mr. Terrence McGee.

Phillip Buchanon is returning punts for the Texans...he is nickle corner.

In terms of worrying about the return points it seems to be enough to make it a factor if you are choicing betwen players who are close.

The latest depth charts have Darent Williams as the #1 PR for Denver, and Justin Miller as the #1 KR for the Jets.

Love to have some homers verify this info.

Kick returners get more yards than punt returners.

I know the Rams signed J R Reid from the eagles, who is a good return man & DB. I'd expect him to return punts & kicks both this season. He is also a good cover guy, and might see the field on D.

Terrence McGee is a monster in that format. I expect Pacman to be pretty good this year too. I beleive Allen Rossum is still returning kicks for ATL and he is listed as a DB and returns really well. Considering that the average weekly score is about 4-6 for a DB, Rossum would have to rack up about 150 return yards to match that production as I don't beleive he is a starter. McGee is the man. Pacman should be good. Devin Hester is a sleeper to keep your eyes on. If Danny Manning starts returning kicks look out, he could be huge.

I think the only players worth starting in these IDP slots are ones who are defensive starters AND return punts or kicks. As mentioned, McGee is the cream of the crop. IMO, he is followed by Chris Gamble and then Pacman Jones who both start and return punts.

There are a couple other players who return both kicks and punts, like Chris Carr for the Raiders and I see a Cletis Gordan listed for the Chargers, but neither will spend much, if any time playing defense. It really depends on what your IDP scoring rules are, but I would prefer to start a top 30 DB over Carr or Gordan or anyone not listed as a defensive starter and getting kick returns.

On offense, Dante Hall and Wes Welker are two solid return men who also get their chances to make a few plays on offense, but at 1 point for 25 yards neither should score in the top 20 ranked WR. I am in a league where PR is 1 point per 10 yards and KR is 1 point per 25 yards. In that format, Dante Hall was the 13th ranked WR last year and Welker was ranked 21st. If PR was 1 point for 25 yards that would have dropped Hall down to about 21st and Welker below 30th. Both had over 400 yards receiving too, though. Welker has looked great this preseason and looked pretty damn good last night. Scrappy dude and fun to watch play the game.

I would also add Chris Carr from Oakland. He is projected to KR/PR and starting at DB.

No, he is purely a KR and I doubt he would be on the team if he didn't have a solid preseason returning kicks. Asomugha and Washington start at the corners with Poole, Rout, and Starks backing them up and all ahead of Carr. At safety you have Huff and Schweigert starting backed up by Gibson and Cooper. I doubt you see Carr get in on more than a handful of defensive plays per game.

What happened to Ellis Hobbs, DB, New England? He was listed at the #2CB, and KR for NE all pre season, then got 0 returns week 1.
