DE Chase Young, WAS (1 Viewer)

Should go #2 in the draft. Amazing there isn't more talk about him.
I am actually surprised we aren't at the point where he is getting nitpicked. I expected at least a couple hot takes that he is a bit overrated or has issues with technique.

Nobody seems to know enough to either nitpick that or have an audience that will understand. "So when he lines up in the one technique off the [blank] gap..."

His dread's are too long for a DE......     that's all I got.

There are a few sights that do draft stuff year round who are pretty high level in those details (more than I generally am even interested in) so I think the audience exists. I seem to remember Joey Bosa kind of losing draft steam his year where it went from him clearly being the player in the draft to people not being so sure and saying more like just top 10.

There are indeed those sites. Usually the guys that write for the SB Nation fan sites are good for having a few articles a year about really technical line stuff. Always helpful. I can never remember what the heck the gaps and techniques are for the life of me, and I've brushed up at least ten-twenty times. My brother does by sight. He's a good soldier.

NBC's Peter King reports "no one" expects the Redskins to pass on Ohio State DE Chase Young at No. 2 overall.

Coach Ron Rivera basically came out himself and said it last week. There is essentially no drama with the top-two overall picks, though we should probably never say never to a quarterback-desperate team enticing the Redskins to trade down a few slots. It just seems extremely unlikely this year.

What's there to say? Dude is probably a pro bowl player early.

He doesn't cover speedy receivers very well? Seriously there's very little to nitpick.

Who’s a better prospect....him or Nick Bosa last year?
Very close. I think I take Chase but boss is, and was, awesome.

Redskins selected Ohio State DE Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Arguably 2020's No. 1 overall prospect regardless of position, Young (6’5/264) need only point to his mantel —  2020 first-team All-American, first-team All-Big Ten, Chuck Bednarik Award for the nation's best defensive player, Bronko Nagurski Trophy for the nation's best American football player, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year — for those still questioning why he decided to forego Indy's combine. Young recorded 75 pressures and led the Buckeyes in sacks (10.5) and tackles for loss (14.5) across from eventual NFL DRoY Nick Bosa as a true sophomore, then returned in 2019 to an FBS-high 16.5 sacks, finishing second (30.5) only to Mike Vrabel (36) for the most sacks accumulated in Ohio State's illustrious school history. Young is as close as it gets to a 'can't miss' player at the next level, projecting with more upside as an EDGE rusher than recent elite prospects Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney.

Washington signed No. 2 overall pick DE Chase Young to a four-year, $34.56 million contract.

As is the case with every first-round pick, the deal includes a fifth-year team option for 2024. Lining up as a true sophomore across from Nick Bosa in 2018, Young recorded 75 pressures and led Ohio State in sacks (10.5) and tackles for loss (14.5). He then returned in 2019 to an FBS-high 16.5 sacks, finishing second (30.5) only to Mike Vrabel (36) for the most sacks in school history. Young is as close as it gets to a 'can't miss' prospect, projecting with more upside as an EDGE rusher than recent elite prospects Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney. He joins Da'Ron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Montez Sweat, making one of the league's better lines that much stronger.

Don't forget Ryan Kerrigan, who is supposed to play with his hand on the ground this year at end if his services aren't let go. Jack Del Rio wants a 4-3, and all indications are that Kerrigan moves outside.

But bring on that Young train. Woot.

DE Chase Young was forced from Washington’s Week 3 game against the Browns with a groin injury and will not return.

Young limped to the sideline after tweaking his groin. It's a massive loss for the Washington defense in a game where they've held the Browns' offense in check.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Washington DE Chase Young (groin) is expected to miss Week 4 against the Ravens.

Young is week to week with a groin strain. It's a downgrade to a Washington defense that's been better than expected. Young had six tackles, a forced fumble, and 2.5 sacks in three games before going down last week. Ryan Kerrigan will start for Young.

Washington Football Team DE Chase Young has been named the Associated Press' Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Young took home 42.5 of the 50 votes, with 4.5 going to Panthers S Jeremy Chinn. Ravens LB Patrick Queen received two, with Bucs S Antoine Winfield Jr. taking home the final remaining vote. The No. 2 overall pick, Young was an absolute beast, immediately changing the complexion of the Football Team's defense and making them an unlikely division winner in Ron Rivera's first year on the job. Still two months shy of his 22nd birthday, Young is already an unblockable force. If paired with the right quarterback, he could be the man to finally return the Football Team to continued relevance.

Young was really good this year. Missed a game and a half with a groin and probably needed to ramp up from that after, but if you had him in IDP in playoff weeks, he was a monster wks 14 and 16.

Well deserved. Just an absolute beast. As a Skins fan I haven’t been this excited to watch a generational talent like Chase since Sean Taylor.

Thanks again to the Giants for winning that meaningless game versus us in the “Chase Bowl”. Much appreciated.

Washington DE Chase Young said he suffered a hip injury before the 2020 season and dealt with a groin injury in the season's first month.

Last year's runaway Defensive Rookie of the Year didn't seem hampered by the injuries, proving unblockable on his way to 7.5 sacks, 28 QB pressures, three forced fumbles, and 32 solo tackles. Young made the Football Team's front four one of the most feared units in the NFL. With a healthy offseason, the 2020 draft's No. 2 overall pick could be even better in his sophomore season. Washington had 2020's fifth best pass rush, per Pro Football Focus grades. Young was graded as PFF's sixth best EDGE rusher last year. Washington's defense profiles as one of the few every-week starting defenses in fantasy football this season.

Benched today against Tampa Bay for me. Rolling with JPP, Josh Sweat, and Marcus Davenport. Tired of waiting for this guy and Brady has the ball out in almost 1.5 seconds. Forget it.

It might came back to bite me, but I'll take my chances with Sweat and Davenport right now.

He's questionable. If he's out, I roll with Darrell Taylor.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up, though. It's quite possible I wouldn't have known that, but I'm on top of it this week. They assumed he would play and Denver's missing half their line. Hoping for a sack or even two.

Washington coach Ron Rivera said Chase Young tore his ACL in Week 10 and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

Young went down with a non-contact injury in the second quarter of Washington's Week 10 game versus the Bucs. He was in an immense amount of pain and had to be carted off the field, foreshadowing the eventual ACL injury. The Football Team defense has struggled to live up to the hype this year and they'll continue to slip without their star defensive end. Young ends his second pro season with 1.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Chase Young (knee) is on a "similar but slightly slower timeline" to Brian Robinson.

Schefter reported that Robinson has a realistic shot at returning in Week 5. That means Young should be sidelined a bit longer than that. The stud EDGE player is returning from a Week 10 ACL tear. As one of the few stars on Washington's roster, it makes sense to slow-play his return. Until he is back, the Commanders could struggle to generate pressure on opposing passers.

Even the biggest Washington fan has to have remorse at this point drafting him...if he doesn't play a full season at a high level this year he's got to be considered a huge bust. And to think they passed on Herbert... :bag:

Some guys just don't have the care factor. I kinda see that with Chase. Doesn't care enough to fight through injuries. Doesn't care enough to play within the scheme. Doesn't care enough to fight through the hard times. It's fine, a huge percent of people don't have that much less after they've made $xx million. And I'm well aware this is a guess of his character which I know nothing about, That being said, I think he's smart enough to care about his second contract. And if he wants a big payday from whatever team, he needs to ball out this year. So I expect a better season coming up for him.

Not too surprised he wasn't given the 5th year option. He's been good to great whenever he's been healthy, but the health has been a big issue.

I kind figured when they extended Payne (likely a bad decision) that at least one of Sweat or Young wasn't getting extended, and signs pointed to Young due to health.

If I were a GM I'd being trying to see how available Chase Young is right now, because he's probably still a better player than any EDGE rusher in this class other than Will Anderson when healthy.
