De De Dorsey vs Clifton Dawson (1 Viewer)

Sorry guys, I tried to make this a poll, but screwed up. I know there's already another thread about the backup in Indy, but no poll that I could see.

Looks like Dawson could overtake Dorsey for #2 in Indy. I don't think Keith is in the mix anymore since he's been hurt.

Colts RB Clifton Dawson has reportedly been the "surprise of camp."

Dawson, who went undrafted out of Harvard due to speed and size concerns, has shown good quickness and excelled in pass protection. It appears Dawson is ahead of Kenton Keith to be Indianapolis' No. 3 halfback.

This is a good question. Part of me is wondering if the Colt backup RB will wind up being a player that is not currently on their roster. The game tomorrow night is an important one to watch.

Scout.com on Dawson Here

Though limited by size, Dawson has a complete game, working hard in all aspects. Has a real chance to make it as a third-down or situational back.

Biography:

Four-year starter who began his college career at Northwestern. Senior totals included 237/1,213/20 on the ground with 24/239/1 as a pass-catcher. Junior totals included 258/1,139/11 rushing with 34/336/2 receiving. All-Conference selection every season since his freshman year.

Pos:

Hard-working, productive ball carrier with potential as a third-down back. Sees the field, quick-footed and makes defenders miss. Follows blocks anywhere on the field, squirms through the small creases and keeps his feet moving on contact. Puts his shoulders into defenders delivering a blow and works runs hard. Solid receiver who nicely adjusts to the ball, displaying good eye/hand coordination. Hard-working blocker who picks up blitzes.

Neg:

Average playing speed and cannot beat defenders around the corner. Does not pick up much yardage off initial contact.

it's really to late to add someone that Indy expects to contribute in 2007 . . . everyone knows their scheme is very complex - and you don't want a RB back there protecting Manning (especially with green Ugoh in tow) and watching him get killed . . .

I am looking for Dawson to do well tomorrow night . . .

....and he is a Canadian as well.
Pretty damn smart one as well having gone to Harvard. What I like the most about this kid is his blocking abilities. Yes, he's a good runner that won't out run the defense, but I'm not worried about that from Dawson. His strengths are his vision, hands, and blocking. I think he could be a very capable runner. Not that he was playing against great competition in the Ivy conference, but he did shatter all of the Ivy rushing records, namely Ed Marinaro.

It's not too late if they don't think anyone on the current roster can do the job.

so the guy is going to learn the playbook on the fly?? No way . . .if they were concerned they would have added one by now, especially via the draft . . .

Corey Dillon would make sense here.
That's true, but I thought I read somewhere that Polian wasn't interested in Dillon. Maybe not, maybe it was a different team, I can't remember.Edit: I changed my mind, Dillon wouldn't make sense. I don't think he's as good as what they already have. He looked like he was running in 3 ft deep mud last year.

A playbook for a RB to learn is not rocket science, especially for an experienced RBs. RBs come and go all the time during the season. That is a non issue as far as I'm concerned. The only issue is whether the Colts are comfortable going into the season with what they have...and I think it is question.

I think this is a possibility too. There might be a veteran RB released that might be intriguing enough to the Colts to at least bring him in for depth. Think maybe a Gado or Toefield type of player. Moreso for an experienced role player rather than a RBBC guy.

Generally, the Colts build from within at the RB position. Doubt they bring in a vet unless an injury occurs.

Dorsey knows the offense and ran with the scout team last year.

Was an NAIA All-American at two positions, on offense and defense. Good football player.

Definitely not as smart as Dawson, but better physically.

I dont know about the "physically" part . . . me "might be faster" but at around 190 pounds, Dorsey is not actually an asset in the passing games . . . aslo, last week, he went down way too easily . . .we will see what happens tomorrow - its a big game for Dorsey and Dawson . . .

As a Colts fan, a couple things troubles me. I couldn't believe they would go into the season with someone like De De Dorsey as their main backup to Addai. I'm not sure how I fee about Dawson yet. I hope one of them is truly worthy of being a #2 RB. The other is that you would think they could have a better backup QB to Peyton Manning. Yes, he's never missed a game and all that, but Jim freaking Sorgi? Even with the salary cap you would think they could do better.

I am a Colts fan as well, and thought the same thing in May . . .all I readm though, was that they were "comfortable with what they have" . . .Dawson may or may not not be the answer, but I don't want 195 lb. Dorsey protecting Manning in the backfield . . .

Was Kieth the 2nd RB in tonight? Dorsey is not looking so well so far and Kieth had a couple decent runs. Could Kieth sneak in as the #2?

Dorsey still looks mediocre (at best) . . . Keith looked decent in his limited time on the field . . .

Ricky available late September. I'm sure he'd be happy to try w/ a contender for once. Just a thought.

Polian and Dungy do not like troubled players on their team if they can help it. At least not go and get one with the kind of track record Ricky Williams brings to the table. It won't happen, ever.

I picked up Dorsey back in June in several leagues. I have watched him in both pre-season games and he did not look good in my opinion, very lack luster, slow to the hole, runs into the pile etc. I'm not impressed at all.
