Seriously though, a very nice gesture from a guy who clearly cared about his guys

 
Smith expressing his gratitude is fantastic, but the thing I like most about it is that you know during that dinner they're going to be thinking of Smith every second, every drink, every bite.

I'd be grateful to someone I loved if they caused me to carve out a specific time and place to remember them like that. I'd never forget that dinner and both the experience and memory of it would be intense. Just a great idea all 'round IMO.

Was listening to SVP and Russillo today when they brought it up and SVP wondered if guys from the same teams/eras would try to get together and make a night of the gift. Would be a hell of an evening.

 
WoW. This is maybe the coolest thing I ever read. Few weeks pass and you get 200 dollars to enjoy at your leisure with family and discuss a great human. Smooth

 
Would be very cool if they rented out a place they ate at before games and all the players ate together

 
Of the two people I've seen talk about getting one, Dougherty said he was not going to use it, but get it framed and Zwikker said he wouldn't use it. Both spoke of how moved they were. So moved they're going to blow off what Smith said the money was for. Weird. Use it and frame the returned check if you just have to have the pelt on the wall.

Or just deposit it online through your smartphone app, and you don't even have to wait for it to come back.

It'd be a great story, down the road, to pull together information on the dinner conversations, the inspiration derived from Smith's act, and how - inevitably - this gets paid forward by a number of the players in a myriad of ways.
