DeAngelo Williams #3 RB going forward? (1 Viewer)

Just checked out the top 250 forward and it lists DeAngelo Williams as #3 up from #5 last week. Williams is fresh off a stinker performance in week three that netted him 8 points in my league vs 15 and 16 pts in weeks 1 and 2. Williams has a bye week #4 and upcoming strength of schedule that looks difficult. So why do you think he's being upgraded over guys like Chris Johnson?

Not sure  I think Deangelo is the Panthers best player and for Fox to leave him on the sidelines for so many offensive plays they deserve to be 0-3. I just dont get it.

Wk 5,6,7 he gets Wash, Buff, and TB. Those are all games the Panthers can win. If they get a lead, they will lean more on Williams.

His "stinker" last night he averaged almost 6 ypc. The problem is with the team not with him. The coaches have to realize they must run more.

If they throw Matt Moore in there, they will definitely run more.

Williams scored in the first two games, and had a down game this past week which wasn't due to him not performing, it was due to the OC (although Fox could have told him to call more run plays) not running it more in the second half when the Panthers were trailing by very little. It was baffling. I hope during the bye the Panthers will see that they need to get back to the basics and do what they do best which is running the ball.

He didn't net a stinker - he averaged 5.8 ypc against a good defense. It was his usage that stunk. Not sure why Carolina wanted to rely on their turnover machine at QB while the game was still close.

I could be wrong about this but I think the MyFBG "Top 200 Forward" rankings that seem to come out on Wednesdays look different than the generic Top 250 rankings that are released first thing Tuesday. It seems the MNF players are re-ranked in the Wednesday MyFBG release.

I would expect Williams to be lower than RB3 in that version tomorrow.

DWill still has the ability and potential to break long TD runs. It is a matter of time, IMO. I am going to keep starting him for the forseeable future.

That was extremely stupid by Fox, and you can bet when they go over the game, and after the bye week, it will be run, run, run. I am thinking of trying to trade for J. Stewart as well. Fox is too smart for that to happen again. They didn't even throw him screens! Get him the ball in space you idiot!Disclaimer: As a Cowboy fan, I was ok w/ his lack of use last night!

DW was the one that gave the tip to Dodds on PRGN.....now it's payback time.

As a cowboy fan we owe Fox a beer. To be only down by less than 7 most of the game and to give Deangelo 10 or 11 carries is crazy.

For us dynasty owners, Fox is packing his bags. Cowher is moving in. He will know how to maximize the power of Williams next year.

I think this is correct.

It was absolutely ridiculous. Now, I had a vested interest needing a few points out of Williams for the 35K contest, but like you said, to only get 11 carries in a game that was that close is mind boggling. It wasn't like he wasn't performing either. He was averaging over 5 yards/carry. The Carolina coaches have only to look in the mirror to see why they are 0-3.

It will be interesting to see how this one works out. Cowher in Carolina seems to be a popular choice amongst the talking heads. Williams will also be in the final year of his contract next year.

IMO, Now is the time to make a play for DWill
And if he does what he did last year after the first 5 or 6 weeks (he had on great game and about 5 stinkers), there will be alot of happy people. How soon some forget. It's early still.

Jeff Davidson needs to be fired. The panthers won last year by running the football. They were down by 3 points and abandoned the run.

With Jake at the helm the only thing that should be abandoned is the pass.

Williams was tearing the Cowboy D apart and they abandon the run. Just horrible coaching job. He looked explosive and was running well.

I wouldnt say he was tearing them up, but 10 or 11 carries for 60 yards isnt sucking either.

I think if you average over 5 per carry you are in the tearing them up ballpark. Fox is just too stupid to see it.

Fox is one of the worst coaches I have ever seen; he consistently misevaluates and misuses his assets. The frustrating thing for Panthers fans has to be that on straight talent this roster is easily in the top 10 in the NFL and possibly in the top 5. If one of the better coaches in this league was at the helm this is a 10-13 win team every year.

ETA: typo

In a 14 team, 2 RB no flex league I got:DWill and Roy E. for Fitz, Reggie Bush and Coffee.I also have Benson and Kevin Smith as RBs.It's a bit of a downgrade at WR, but moving Bush and Coffee for DWill make up for it, imo.

Thanks guys. I didn't catch the game last night so I didn't know that Williams was productive in limited use. You've turned me from a seller to a buyer.

For the record, I do own DeAngelo Williams so I have some motive in my post...

There are two issues I saw last night that bothered me about the Panthers offense.

#1. Play-calling - that has been addressed in this post.

#2. How they swap personnel between Williams and Stewart. It seems as soon as Williams would bust a 12-14 yard run, he'd come out of the game. Why? Because he's gassed? I don't think so. On paper, Williams and Stewart have similar YPC (4.4 vs. 4.3) but isn't there such a thing as momentum and consistency that should be factored in more? I certainly believe Stewart is deserving of a series here and there and I just think that feels more right as an approach than you go in 2 plays, I'll get the next 2 plays. It's not even a 3rd down RB type of approach...it's wierd.

Williams is the best player on that team outside of maybe Steve Smith. Stewart is good he's just not quite the talent of Williams; who is special with the ball in his hands as a RB. All I know is that when the game was on the line last night with 5-6 minutes to go and your best player is on the sidelines, then something is wrong, really wrong. If the Panthers keep this up throughout the season then Fox and his staff deserve what is coming to them. That was the worst offensive gameplan I have seen called this year, by far!
