That's a bad beat. Nothing more. You started the correct guy as was evidenced by what Stewart did to Minnesota's D.I'm sure I'm not the only one who will miss the Super Bowl because of Deangelo's injury. The best laid plans.... Always start your studs, right?
The Viking hit Williams from the side. Williams got up slow and then run/hopped off the field. They looked at his ankle for a while on the sidelines, and re-taped it out there. He tried to test it out, but then they went back into the locker-room. The sideline reporter announced that they didn't do immediately X-rays but that they were re-taping it again in the locker room (I guess trying to do a more thorough job), and he would re-test it before the 2nd half. He came out, but was on the side-line in a parka for the 2nd half.My guess-If they didn't do X-rays, they weren't too worriedIf they announced that, it seems to me a good sign.I would love for him to play....... so my opponent does not get to use Stewart.anyone know anything yet? This is all I've seen:
>Williams missed the Tampa Bay game two weeks ago with a similar problem, but had practiced all last week with no apparent problems.<

. However, once he was "off" the ankle for a little bit, it probably stiffened up, and since they were doing OK, they didn't want to test it.They really have nothing left to play for except pride and to be a spoiler. With that in mind, they shut him down so as not to do more extensive damage to him. They also have two other rb's who are pretty capable backs in Stewart and Sutton who turned in a pretty nice night against what was supposed to be a good defense. My guess, he'll be shut down next week and unless he substantially improves may be shut down for the rest of the year. No sense killing one of your best players and someone you'll rely on next year for a couple give away weeks. Of course, Fox isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer and may try to give him 30+ touches next week. The Viking hit Williams from the side. Williams got up slow and then run/hopped off the field. Problem is the Panthers really don't have much to play for (except pride). They may sit him just to make sure he doesn't do further damage.
We will have to wait and how/when he practices.
I have to block my SB opponent who has struggling RB's from picking up Harrison (whom I dropped) (no shame there I think), Stewart or Michael Bush.I'm thinking Harrison is the greater threat vs OAK and am less worried about Stewart @ NYG. I'm guessing if I grab Harrison off the WW, he'll get Stewart and I can also then grab Bush who I'm also thinking could have a very good game, but I'd like to prevent my opponent from discovering if that will be the case.Stewart is @ the Giants next week. A starting RB in week 16 is a starting RB in week 16, but I'm not terribly excited about that matchup in a game New York will REALLY need. Then again, I would have never expected his success last night, even if I knew Williams would leave the game early.
I'm thinking (worried) that you might be right. It will depend on how Williams feels, I think. If he wants to go, I doubt they will not allow him. That could be a public image disaster. If he's willing (or wants to) "rest it," then I could see him sitting out for the last 2 weeks. The only good thing I can think of is that they haven't given any indication that it is a high ankle sprain. That would definitely end his season. They really have nothing left to play for except pride and to be a spoiler. With that in mind, they shut him down so as not to do more extensive damage to him. This.If you are still playing this week, you apparently don't need D-will. I would look elsewhere, even if he is cleared to play.not counting on DeAngelo for this week. I pulled a huge upset this week with him giving me nothing (GB Steve Smith and whoever it was that tripped up ADP on that screen pass) and i'll just have to do it again. They have nothing to left to play for. I'll be very surprised if DW suits up.
Didnt Deangelo get like 4 tds vs NYG last year? Granted the Carolina team is a bit different, but the NYG team isnt the same and will be coming off a short week. Carolina runs the ball period and if DeAngelo is a no go, Stewart IMO is an excellent startStewart is @ the Giants next week. Is this really how teams think? He does have something to play for if he can play.....his contract. He's paid good money by the team to play football for the Carolina Panthers. And what about his side of it with contract incentives? He may want to play as well. Why wouldn't he if he could? He has all off season for his ankles to get better. I don't care since I own both Deangelo and Stewart but it seems to me if he can play, he will play. They really have nothing left to play for except pride and to be a spoiler. he also should play for the glory of your fantasy teamWTF -- he has nothing to play for -- what about the fans? S. Jackson is playing with a herniated disk!

I also have no doubt that Fox would much, much rather have an 8-8 record rather than something below .500.Is this really how teams think? This is what the Panthers think:"When we look back on this year, we're going to look back on the games we could have won," wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad added. "Right now I think we're gaining some momentum, but obviously, it's too little, too late." Too late for a postseason run this year, yes. Too late to re-establish firmer footing for 2010, no. Too late to reaffirm the team's pride and self-respect, definitely not. "I think it speaks to the character of the people in (the locker) room and the character of the coaches," King said. "We're not going to sit back and pack up our stuff and wait 'til the season is over; we're going to come out and fight to the end. "We're going to build on this win for the next two weeks. We've got two (winning) teams in the games ahead of us. We want to prove a point to those guys, as well."Is this really how teams think? I already addressed this in a way, but let me clarify. If DeAngleo can do further damage to his ankle, they may rest him for next week (and maybe the final week). If DeAngelo feels he can play, then I doubt they will "convince" him to rest. If, however, he practices fully on Thursday and Friday, I would expect him to play and get a normal workload. Is this really how teams think? This is along the line of thinking that I was trying to convey in my post. Williams is the most explosive player on the panthers (Steve Smith being second now). If he can, he will give it a go, but if he's still tender and showing signs of pain, they most likely shut him down. The ankle is already weak and that hit he took a couple of weeks ago, you had to wonder how it wasn't broken because it looked ugly. I think he wants to play. Any player worth their weight would want to play, but being realistic, you have to protect the players, sometimes from themselves. The team will do what's best for the long term interest of the team. Winning against Minnesota with your 1b back and an UDFA means they can take their time in evaluating Williams. Yes, while he may want to play and ankles do get better over the offseason, would you want it to break because of the looseness and weakness and then have to put pins in it? You can't predict injury, but I'm guessing there is some information as to when a player is injured and continues to play with injury, that it can get worse than just needing rest. I don't own Stewart or Williams on any of my teams. Just my opinion of the thinking in protecting a valuable asset.I already addressed this in a way, but let me clarify. If DeAngleo can do further damage to his ankle, they may rest him for next week (and maybe the final week). Great opportunity to continue evaluating Matt Moore, too. If Williams can play, he'll play....and if he does, he'll have a huge game.Nothing has been reported that it's a high ankle sprain, not that I've seen.Possible HAS for D-Will?
I think it's just a sprained ankle.Possible HAS for D-Will?
"It's something he's been dealing with. It's set him back a little bit over the last month," Fox said during his appearance on the Panther Talk radio program Monday night. "He'll do everything in his power to be ready for the New York Giants."

WTF are you talking about? How is it not responding? Was it not responding when he practiced in full all week before the Patriots game (AFTER the initial injury), and gained a total of 97 yards against them (6.3 ypc)? Was it not responding when he practiced in full all week before the Giants game?He took a hit and injured his ankle-it has nothing to do with him "responding" to the earlier injury. It does not seem to be responding.
Good question. You would think they'd have Friday off, but I haven't heard anything definitive.Hell-the Chargers and Titans play on Friday, don't they?Any idea if the practice schedule changes this week at all with Christmas on Friday? Are teams practicing today or giving time off on Friday?
The injuered ankle must still be weak.WTF are you talking about? 10-15 touches, well that's important. probably don't start him if he's active. But you also probably don't start Stewart.W/ any ankle sprain the key determinant to speed of recovery is the grade or degree of the sprain. Remember, "sprain" means torn ligaments to one degree or another w/ a 3rd degree sprain being a complete tear of a ligament and a 1st degree being a "slight" tear.
I've had 3rd degree sprains on both ankles, specifically complete tears of the anterior talofibular ligament both times. The first time was during a volleyball game and the second was dodging a car while jogging. It took me almost six weeks to be able to run w/ bearable pain and another 3 weeks to be able to run any distance w/o pain. The "cure" for a 3rd degree sprain in rest and therapy until the scar tissue effectively joins the two pieces of ligament together...there was no surgery.
Now I didn't have a high dollar medical staff doing daily therapy and rehab like DW does but if he has anything more than a 1st degree sprain I can't see him playing. There's no reason to risk further damage to the ankle and screw him long term.
Even if he does play I don't see him getting more than 10-15 touches and then you have to wonder how effective he can be on those. For me he would barely rate flex consideration and will stay on my bench this week in favor of Wells, Charles & Mendenhall.
You're nuts. Did you even see the hit? It was a very violent hit directly on the side of his leg. It wasn't a result of a "weak" ankle; it was the result of a violent hit.Summer Wheat said:The injuered ankle must still be weak.

Far be it from an NFL coach to not be 100% honest about an injury. How often have you ever heard a coach declare a player out on a Monday following a Sunday game? I would say almost never (not including confirmed broken bones), even when a guy has an ACL tear the MRI usually isn't even back.10-15 touches, well that's important. probably don't start him if he's active. But you also probably don't start Stewart.W/ any ankle sprain the key determinant to speed of recovery is the grade or degree of the sprain.
